so, i’m doing a story for tomorrow’s newspaper because we heard that a person in national park, which is one of the towns that i cover, is responsible for the inch-count of snow for the philadelphia airport. this is what i found out. i will give you a preview of what’s in my article tomorrow. a national park woman, who gets a monthly stipend (from oct to april), goes out and measures the snow and reports it to the national weather service every six hours. she’s the one! she has a ruler and a weather board and she goes out there and sticks the ruler in and says “okay, that’s 18 inches.” then, she calls to do her reports and that’s how they get the official count for the philadelphia airport. they also use civilians in allentown, atlantic city and wilmington for their official airport counts. actual humans! this is brilliant. i love it. 71318 true a person with a ruler

0 I am convinced that nature has it out for me. Too many years of loudly proclaiming that when I am I homeowner, I’ll not do any of that boring-ass yard work like mowing and shoveling snow that my dad does. I’ll just pay kids to do it. It started three days before we moved in and mother nature was all, “Oh, you thought that sucked? Check this one out! More snow then you’ve gotten in the past 20 years!” And not one damn kid has shown up yet offering to shovel. Come summer, I fully expect a Day of the Triffids type scenario where all the grass starts growing at an exponential rate (as it seems everything does these days) and trying to eat me.

last week, <a href="http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/local/Sledding-Accident-Child-Hit-by-Car.html">this kid</a> got pinned under a car and was run over. luckily, he’s okay. that, and a <a href="http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2009/02/01/sledding_spills_and_chills/">boston globe</a> article about sledding accidents and potential helmet laws gave me an idea for a story. so, i’m going out to chestnut branch park in mantua to talk to some parents and kids and also, some area hospitals to see if they treated banged up noggins around snowfall time. so, two questions? 1. where are the best places in gloucester county to sled? 2. any sledding stories?? 69714 false sledding stories
