I went on a bit of a downloading spree tonight. Some short reviews after the jump.
John Zorn's Masada
I am having my mind completely fucking blown right now. John Zorn was always one of those dudes I intended to get into and not got around to really delving into. (Not creepy) Tim at work gave me Masada and I’m at the office 40 minutes later than I should be cause I can’t pull myself away from it. I’m just sitting in the back of the office rocking out.
I’ve always been into eastern-sounding music, whether it’s the traditional stuff of Taraf de Haiduks, the gypsy punk of Gogol Bordello, or earlier weird-out Mr. Bungle, but this is another animal entirely. The musicianship displayed on this album is jaw-dropping. I can’t remember the last time I was so in awe by a drum or bass solo.
