Deerhoof - Offend Maggie
Every year, despite all my best efforts, I end up missing a truly great album; something I could have been enjoying for months and would have made my top albums of the year. In 2007, there was The Acorn’s Glory Hope Mountain and El Guincho’s Alegranza. In 2008, it’s Deerhoof’s Offend Maggie.

My (small) 2008 List
Billy Bragg: Mr. Love and Justice – we were lucky enough to have him release an album during an election year, since that seems to be when he tours. i think i have listened to this more than anything else released this year. seeing him live @ the Keswick was awesome and he was such a good storyteller.
Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds: Dig!!! Lazarus, Dig!!! – yet another lucky touring year, as he hardly ever comes stateside. not my absolute favourite by the group, but still strong enough to keep me listening. another charming performer.
New Year's Eve 2008
What’s everyone doing? I have no plans. As always, I don’t know what I’m looking for, but I’ll know when I hear it.
2008 Album Selections
with album art! Because I don’t want to write so much about them! I downloaded about 40 albums for 2008, and not much had a lasting hold for me. It’s getting harder to be impressed with new music; I almost didn’t care enough to try.
Who's watching the debates tonight?
They’re town-hall format, with Brokaw moderating. A bit about town-hall debates and what to expect from Brokaw:
Obama seemingly unaffected by Ayers attacks
I was nervous about the polls coming in today as they’ll be the first to reflect the candidates’ status since the Ayers attacks and ads started over the weekend and it seems they’ve had no effect what-so-ever! In fact, Obama has gone up in several polls! Check out the gallup chart:

A double-digit lead for Obama by the end of the week?
Could be going that way if the trends at Rasmussen and Gallup are in any way accurate. Hell, unless McCain does something drastic or Obama/Biden commits a major gaffe, we could see +10 for Obama by Wednesday.
Voter Purges in Swing States
Should we concerned about this? Is this the sort of thing that happens every election and we’re only now making a big deal of it? Or is the election being stolen right out from under our noses?
Lapsang Souchong: Bacon Tea
Well, more like campfire tea. But it definitely could be described as “bacony” as Beth the Vegan did earlier today. But she’s vegan, so what does she know from bacon? A friend at work hereafter known as Cool Tim (to differentiate from the other Tim) recommended I try this tea and found a pound bag of it on amazon for $15. It was a steal (the 6 pack of 3.5oz Twinings tin was $25). I highly recommend it cause not only does it taste and smell amazingly smokey (and my entire cube reeks of bacon/campfire. Seriously. You can smell it two cubes over.), but it’s gotten me far more wired than a cup of coffee, to the point where my face feels a bit funny from being so tense.
I give this product four out of five stars. It loses a star because it’s so pungent, I really can’t see myself drinking this several times a day like I do green tea. It’s really kind of overwhelming.
Once I’m done with this tea, it’s on to monkey tea which Justin just showed me. Because I trust monkeys. And Justin. But mostly monkeys.
