Google's Lead Visual Designer Quits

And his reasons, I think, are very interesting. Essentially, Google operated for 7 years without a lead designer and made all of their design decisions as engineers with data. So when the lead developer was asked to back decisions up with said data, he balked.

The thing is… I side with Google.

Please bear with me...

Decided to publish a rather raw redesign cause fuck it. And I’m excited about having a platform for some new features and I needed this live first. If you see anything that seems off or wrong to you, please post the link to the page, a description of what you’re seeing, and the browser you’re using. Or better still, a screenshot.

Printing Advice

I’m not exactly sure who on theScrabbled can help me with this. But I know someone here definitely can.

I was just wondering what the entire process would be to get a card (think Happy Birthday, Get Well Soon, etc.) that I design in bulk print.

What programs do you suggest to design the layout? Photoshop I assume? Where do I get it printed? Submit the file online to a company? What format is standard for card design?

Tropicana and Pepsi get new designs

And everyone seems to hate them. And I really don’t understand why. Maybe it’s my minimalist bent, but they’re clean, easy to read and identify (though the color-blindness gripe with the Tropicana is certainly valid), and stand out. The Pepsi much more so than the Tropicana, but still. Does anyone else think these new designs are crappy?

Republic of Seychelles

So I’m writing a function for returning a continent, when given a country. I’m learning about many, many, countries I’ve never heard of.

The Republic of Seychelles is a group of islands just north of Madagascar. Check out how awesome their flag is! I’ve never seen such a cool country flag ever before:

About The Scrabbled

The Scrabbled is a group of people blogging about and linking to all manner of things. Usually we argue and make fun of each other. Everybody knows everybody through somebody so there are no strangers here. Most of us have even met in real life! If you happen to personally know someone here and would like to start arguing with and/or making fun of someone, shoot John an email and ask to sign up. Otherwise, you're just going to have to read in relative silence. Sorry.
