Patriot Act extended.
Lautenberg voted nay, securing my vote for him in the next election. But why the hell didn’t Menendez vote?

The Employee Free Choice Act
Curious to see if anyone’s been following the Employee Free Choice Act that has been stirring up quite a bit of controversy as of late. Essentially, the goal is to make it easier for workers to form unions by doing away with the secret ballot — a system that was intended to protect workers from persecution when unionizing but has since been used by employers to quash unionization attempts.
So I'm watching MSNBC..
And they’re rolling on the vote for the bailout plan. The DOW was somewhere near 500 points down, but when the nays hit 220, it went down to -750 in under a minute.
Lawrence Lessig on Changing Congress
Creative Commons “copyleft” creator Lawrence Lessig has a plan to help drive the money out of politics and it sounds like a very good idea. Far-fetched, perhaps, but so was the idea of an alternative copyright scheme before Trent Reznor went and released an album under it a few days ago.
It Ain't All Bad
- The house voted to ban waterboarding and a few other techniques. Which is kinda funny since waterboarding is already banned. But whatever, good going, Congress!
- The house is also set to levy contempt charges on Harriet Miers and Josh Bolton for ignoring their subpeonas. In case you don’t care, both were called to congress to testify on the attorney firings. Both didn’t show because the Whitehouse said they didn’t have to. They did.
- Condi Rice got verbally smacked around by Wexler about her false statements leading up to Iraq (of which he had a stack of on his desk. Y’know. For effect.)
- Hillary Clinton sold the names and information of all of her donors to a direct-mail spammer. Oh, wait. That’s bad. Nevermind.
