Big Ol' Chart Of Beer
Here is a giant image of (possibly) every type of beer imaginable in hierarchy/flowchart form.
Haddon Pub Fest
This is happening this Saturday until 6:00pm (and hopefully later). Any and all are welcome to pass the hell out at my (and Sammy’s) place.

I was just asked a very difficult question, name the top three beers that you have not but want to try.

Beers Wars Movie
Think all those fancy craft beers at the store are made by microbreweries, think again.
Smoked Beer and BBQ
One of the more interesting events during Philly Beer Week. Anyone ever taste a smoked beer?
Award winning chili
I made a chili that won a contest at work. It’s my own recipe this time (no blue-ribbon winners, food-crew). I worked on it for a few weeks testing it out on various Scrabblers and honed it down to this. I figured I’d post the recipe in case anyone’s interested.
Pub & Kitchen
Johnny Mac resurfaces with an english pub inspired menu in my neighborhood… this will totally be my new hangout
menu preview:
- Oysters on the half shell from both coasts, which will change daily
- Fish and chips, featuring beer-battered hake with housemade fries and lemon aioli
- Roasted striped bass with apple potato cakes and cider broth
- Bangers and mash with mustard green beans
- Lobster BLT
- A domestic cheese plate with accompaniments like Guinness caramel
Philadelphia Brewing Company
Philadelphia Brewing Company has released the first of its seasonal brews……. Fleur de Lehigh.
This brew is a nod to old tyme beverages – the kind of styles being re-invigorated by Belgians and Italians and foresighted Americans. The emphasis is on a unique line up of herbs and spices. If you must conform to styles think Belgian Pale … with herbs and spices: Cardamom, Ginger, Lemongrass, Rose hips, and Rhubarb root.
Bookshelf
I’ve been listening to oldies, drinking Heineken, and operating a table saw all afternoon/evening. I made a goddamn bookshelf and I feel great. More to come… I’m going to go admire it and then put on a layer of primer (I decided to paint instead of stain).
When the last time you hammered while hammered?
Alcoholic Beverage of Choice
One of my final assignments for the beverage operations class i am taking involves a survey about alcohol. Assuming you drink some kind of alcoholic beverage (it could be at any point in your life), could you do my a favor and answer the five questions after the jump. Thanks for your help.
Italians Discover Beer
i read this a while back but just remembered to tell john about it last nite…
Even Beer Can Be Nerdy.
Ever wonder how eco-friendly that IPA you’re downing is? Care to know what the carbon footprint of your favorite micro-brewed lager might be?
The Scrabbled Night at the Ballpark
I propose that a bunch of us go to a Phillies game together sometime this season (the earlier the better). Most of us like baseball, and most of us like pulled pork sandwiches, and most of us like beer. It’s a win-win situation!
Maybe if we can get enough people, we can get “The Scrabbled” up on the scoreboard!
3 Guys 6 Chickens
…about 12 hours.
Sammy, Hutch and myself tested the art of beer-can chicken with an extravagant, experimental 6 chicken marathon, last Saturday. We knew the basics: a dry rub (with an olive oil layer), one not-quite-full beer can, about 90-120 minutes. But we didn’t know much about the details and we were looking to have a little fun. 3 on the grill, 3 in the oven (no real difference) with some combination of parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme ground into the cavity. The following covers the recorded recipes (with photos!) and my opinion on each.
