Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti: Before Today

I’m tired and it’s late. So this is not going to be where you expect it to be.

My friend mentioned this band months ago and said, “I can’t believe I had to tell you about this band.” I never acted on it. Until just now. There’s some reeaal funky sax going on in the intro. Though the next tracks become more band-like, I’m definitely interested in finishing this.

This band is like Arcade Fire, as in, they both have band names that somehow aptly (and strangely) describe the music.

Hmm… and now it’s slow, sweeping, and synthy.

Paranoid: Official Scrabbled Album Discussion

With the marketing blitz for Iron Man 2 I am sure everyone’s been hearing a lot Black Sabbath lately but “Paranoid” is another one of those albums I’ve never completely heard before, sure I know “Iron Man” and “Paranoid” but so does anyone with a radio. “War Pigs” was introduce to me via Faith No More. The album, while apparently panned by critics upon it’s initial release, is now regarded as one of the top albums of all time. RollingStone had it at 130 on their top 500 greatest album list and Guitar World rated it the 6th best guitar album of all time in their top 100 list. So, like we did with The Who let’s spend some time with the album that launched Ozzy into super-stardom.

Rate the album 1-5 and if you want to be thorough rate each song on the same scale.

Scrabbled Comp #6: Does Not Exist

Sorry but the last compilation post was a disaster. Things just didn’t work out. I had a very challenging weekend: some drinking, plenty of heartbreak, long graduate classes, a Sunday of test grading.

That being said, Hutch’s Halloween Mix is fucking perfect and makes for a great replacement.

And without further ado, the theme for Scrabbled Comp #7:
Artists or song titles with some form of the number 7. That can include “septa,” “VII”, etc. Be creative.

7 is my favorite number, so that’s why I’m focusing so much on it. My opening track is TBA.

Scrabbled Comp #5: Hello, My Name Is

I thought this was a fun one. Kevin mentioned that it might be his favorite compilation so far, and I agree with him.

Scrabbled Comp #5: Hello, My Name Is

With so many solid, modern rock tracks, this compilation definitely feels like a result of The Scrabbled’s collective consciousness. I kinda hate Kevin and Hutch for their tracks, but I commend their test of democracy. Evan, I’m glad, after all the non-reading, you came up with “Frank Sinatra”. Apologies to Sammy for the last minute drop; if you want another track on here, let me know. Matthew, thanks for reminding me about The Postal Service (same to you, Jay, for Piebald).

About The Scrabbled

The Scrabbled is a group of people blogging about and linking to all manner of things. Usually we argue and make fun of each other. Everybody knows everybody through somebody so there are no strangers here. Most of us have even met in real life! If you happen to personally know someone here and would like to start arguing with and/or making fun of someone, shoot John an email and ask to sign up. Otherwise, you're just going to have to read in relative silence. Sorry.
