Fun with Google Adwords
I recently got a $100 gift card for Google Adwords to advertise my freelance business. Adwords works by charging a variable dollar amount per word or phrase, based on popularity. So if I want to buy the phrase “web development,” which is likely quite popular, I’m going to pay a lot of money for each click. If I buy “purple monkey blender,” however, it’s going to be quite cheap.
So I put it to you guys: what key words or phrases should I buy? I am completely open to the idea of buying nothing but joke words and phrases. I might do a few serious ones.
Advertisement Fail
So I was driving through New York City yesterday (I had a date, woo!) and on my way out, I saw a gigantic advertisement on the side of Madison Square Garden.
I could not believe what I saw. Could these PR/designers be so oblivious to the inherent humor here? Please tell me someone else gets how this is funny.
Finding the Time to Bleed
The dudes behind the fantastic game Team Fortress 2 made an ad. This is the story of how that ad was mad (also, you can watch the ad). Sound kind of boring, right? Wrong! Because this story, not unlike the recent work of one John Hodgman, is completely untrue. For example:
> “You think what we do is easy?” screamed Jay, sending a further cascade of sandwich onto the sneeze guard. “Where would you have put the script for Road House into the script for Predator, smart guy? At the beginning? Because then it’s just two movies,” he said, not even believing how stupid someone could be to do that.
