Fun with Google Adwords

I recently got a $100 gift card for Google Adwords to advertise my freelance business. Adwords works by charging a variable dollar amount per word or phrase, based on popularity. So if I want to buy the phrase “web development,” which is likely quite popular, I’m going to pay a lot of money for each click. If I buy “purple monkey blender,” however, it’s going to be quite cheap.

So I put it to you guys: what key words or phrases should I buy? I am completely open to the idea of buying nothing but joke words and phrases. I might do a few serious ones.

Top Tem Emo Singles

I have chosen only singles to make life easier. I have given myself no limit with regard to time periods as emo has been around forever and was only given a name about 20 years ago.
To me emo has always been about the presenting of a certain type of lyric on a classic musical canvas.
Anyway a ‘proper’ emo list would just be Keane, Athlete and Belle and Sebastien and I hate 2 of them.

NPR's Best Music of 2009 lists.

Of particular interest to me simply because they seem to be the only publication aware of the fact that jazz and classical music still exists.

Since there are only 2 days left in the year, nobody has started this yet, and John is presumably busy with the move…….

Movies wherein the book was NOT better than the movie

List them.

Inspired by Christina’s comment on the Jesse James movie thread. I can only think of one and some may not agree: Fight Club. The movie was much better than the book with a considerably more satisfying ending.

Are there any others?

I've been working on my favorite albums of the year AND decade.

Have you? I’m sticking with “favorite” and not “best” cause I don’t think any of us have listened to anywhere near enough music to say what the best is.

THOUGH I SHALL TRY.

Pitchfork Predictions

So that music site that no one talks about is doing a list for the aughts (2000-2009) of the top 200 albums.

Tomorrow they list the top 20. I thought we’d have a little predicting fun tonight. Actually, I could probably name everything Pitchfork will select. These are more selections that I would like to see.

Scrabbled Comp #2: Outta This World

So I’m working on a standard format for these posts. But since it’s still in the works, I’m going to continue discussing logistics with everyone. Soon, I’ll just be listing the last week’s tracklist, and the current week’s theme. Plain and simple.

The first compilation is titled Scrabbled Comp #1: Initial Compilation. Get it? Anyway, it’s 12 tracks long, which will be the minimum from here on out. Click here to listen from your computer. Go you know where to download it.

Scrabbled Compilations

I am going to start a weekly Monday night ritual. Every week I am going to come up with a mixtape concept and you, the Scrabbled community, will assist in its creation.

Then I’ll make it a playlist on my iTunes to be entertained by, thank you.

Top 5 Songs of the Year to Date

This place is dead this week! Let’s argue about things.

I Like Kung Fu Movies

I’ve always liked them. But I’ve never considered myself any sort of expert in them. To date, I’ve only seen a handful of the classics. But I have Netflix. And while I don’t have my summer off, I would still like knock off a few items on my list. So I’m watching Kung Fu movies. Dozens of them. And I need recommendations. I’ve looked at a bunch of Top 10 lists for the genre and gotten some ideas for flicks I’ve missed, but I’m curious to see what you guys think. And I say “kung fu movies” in the broadest of meanings, so go nuts. I am equal-opportunity asian-dudes-beating-each-other-up movie fan.

Things I Would Do If I Had My Summer Off

When music gives you goosebumps.

There was a thread on reddit today that asked what songs give you goosebumps. I meant to leave a single suggestion and ended up getting a bit carried away, and writing a stream-of-consciousness list of what I think are some truly great moments in music history. My list below. Add yours under it.

Paris' Car Jukebox

So I’ve been on spring break since last Wednesday. I’ve been busy with Seton Hall work, rest, reading, and the outdoors. I haven’t been online too often.

I still can’t believe that Twitter post is alive. I’m probably going to miss my Lost responsibility tonight too.

Anyway, I just stopped in Jersey City to pay rent and I made a fresh set of CDs for my car. I thought it’d be a nice thing to share, seeing as I haven’t posted anything of interest in a while.

Music Emergency

I’m not sure who here is aware, but my sister, Natalie, is pregnant. She is having a girl but has not released the name of the child, though we all know it starts with the letter ‘M’.

So the due date is March 20th, which apparently, is the 10-month mark of the pregnancy. So in actuality, ‘M’ can enter this world any day now.

I just received a text message from Natalie about some cramps and pre-labor contractions.

I have to throw together Baby’s First Mix CD as soon as possible now! Any suggestions? I’ll write “from theScrabbled” on it. I was aiming for some soft, pretty music and maybe something with an educational edge. Who knows? What have you got?

Wanna all vote? Okay, let’s vote!…

Should it be what we want to win? Or what we think will win? There is a difference right?

I only included the “major” awards.

The Scrabbled Post wherein you list "great" albums that you never listen to anymore

Was thinking about this on the way to work. when critics spout about certain classic albums, I often wonder how much they actually listen to them. Sure Nevermind is a classic, but how often do you really ever put it on? I can’t remember the last time. I must be years. Granted, this is just one album and it’s just me, I’m sure there are some of you who listen to the album with some regularity. But you get the gist.

What classics or, hell, just what previous favorites of yours never make it onto your playlist anymore?

I wanna sell out and write empty, vapid, catchy pop songs

New York City Bike Tour

Tomorrow I’m taking the entire day to cycle through the city (mainly below 34 St.) and tour some stores I’ve heard about. I wouldn’t necessarily call it a shopping spree exactly, just a nice way to tour the city with landmarks.

I plan on posting about my discoveries/opinions later on.

List of stores after the jump…

The Scrabbled is a group of people blogging about and linking to all manner of things. Usually we argue and make fun of each other. Everybody knows everybody through somebody so there are no strangers here. Most of us have even met in real life! If you happen to personally know someone here and would like to start arguing with and/or making fun of someone, shoot John an email and ask to sign up. Otherwise, you're just going to have to read in relative silence. Sorry.
