AskTheScrabbled: What "before your time" albums do you really love?
Just finished listening to Tim, by The Replacements, for the second time today. So Good! The album came out in ’84 and they broke up in ’91 so there was never really a chance for me to get into them. What “before your time” albums do you really love?
This guy seems pretty pissed off about the Census.
I ask you, TheScrabbled: is he justified in his skepticism, or is this more Tea-Baggery? I mean, my understanding is that participation in the Census is optional, but Census data is used to determine federal and state funding, etc. Can you help me out?
Let's all list things that, if left alone, we could eat the entire standard-store-bought package/container of.
You know, if not for the guilt and self-loathing.
And we’re not talking things you’re capable of eating entire packages or containers of, but things you’re tempted — nay, compelled — to finish in a single sitting.
do you guys do anything for valentine's day?
i know it’s a ridiculous made-up holiday, but seriously, you doin’ anything?

Help me Help myself
Does anyone here know of any online or print “zines” (i threw up a little typing that word)or music websites that’ll review a band’s CD? Anything to give my band some press? Everything I seem to find has to do with punk/hardcore.
we are not punk/hardcore.
Cooking With Goat Chops
I live in Perth Amboy with two brothers. Their father hunts/fishes often. There is a fridge in the basement full of meat. No, I don’t think Mr. Gregory hunts goat, but alas, there are goat chops.
Does anyone have an suggestions/recipes/ideas for me? I just made some delicious red curry chicken soup over the weekend, so I’m certainly in the mood for something with some foreign panache. Maybe something Greek?
Is there such a thing as "bad art?"
Been thinking about the nature of opinion and how we’re allowed to have some opinions, but others can be viewed as snobbish. This lead me to the question, is there such a thing as bad art? Why or why not?
Road Trip Food
What do you guys like to eat on road trips? I made it from Phoenix, AZ to Odessa, TX on sunflower seeds and diet mt. dew (I’ll admit, I stopped for lunch). You?
anyone ever take tussionex cough syrup
it’s codeine and my doctor prescribed it for my cough yesterday.
I want to but my dad a record player
The internet is less than helpful; Amazon reviews even on the best product range from great to worthless.
Computer Speakers
My speakers I had for about 6 years have finally died. I had a set of Altec Lansings that were ok.
Zombie Apocalypse Playlist
Inspiration for this idea came from LA Weekly
Imagine the zombie apocalypse has finally happened, you struggle to live each day fighting off the horde and scavenging for resources. You stumble across an abandoned radio statio, the transmitter doesn’t work but one of the dual tape players does. You only have time to make one mix tape before the zombies break through the station door. What’s your zombie apocalypse playlist?
AskTheScrabbled: Pretty [Boring] People
So I’m watching Bones on TNT, as I sometimes do when their Law & Order jag ends, and there’s this girl on it who is almost flawless.
She’s so pretty I sometimes think she might be CGI. So pretty, in fact, that she is completely unremarkable.
I put it to you, TheScrabbled: who are your top 5 “attractive” people that you find aesthetically banal?
My #1 after the jump.
Drums, and the use thereof.
I had a funny thought on the way home from work today: the drum beat from The Decemberists’ “The Sporting Life” (and, perhaps more famously, Iggy Pop’s “Lust for Life”) is the happiest drum beat I can think of.
Seriously. It’s impossible for me to think of a happier drum beat at the moment of writing this. It made me wonder if this particular beat had a name, you know? Oh, yeah, that’s the old Chedderworth Shuffle. Something like that…
But now I put it to you: what beats do you associate with a single emotion? Or, perhaps more appropriately, what drum beats force you into a specific mood?
Drop Everything Movies
As defined by today’s AVclub posting, “drop everything” movies are those flicks that you come across while flicking through channels and instantly drop everything to continue watching.
For me, it’s Ghostbusters, Aliens, Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure, Commando, and pretty much anything distributed by Cannon Films during the 1980’s.
What are yours?
Scrabbled Comp #6: Does Not Exist
Sorry but the last compilation post was a disaster. Things just didn’t work out. I had a very challenging weekend: some drinking, plenty of heartbreak, long graduate classes, a Sunday of test grading.
That being said, Hutch’s Halloween Mix is fucking perfect and makes for a great replacement.
And without further ado, the theme for Scrabbled Comp #7:
Artists or song titles with some form of the number 7. That can include “septa,” “VII”, etc. Be creative.
7 is my favorite number, so that’s why I’m focusing so much on it. My opening track is TBA.
Scrabbled Comp #5: Hello, My Name Is
I thought this was a fun one. Kevin mentioned that it might be his favorite compilation so far, and I agree with him.
Scrabbled Comp #5: Hello, My Name Is
With so many solid, modern rock tracks, this compilation definitely feels like a result of The Scrabbled’s collective consciousness. I kinda hate Kevin and Hutch for their tracks, but I commend their test of democracy. Evan, I’m glad, after all the non-reading, you came up with “Frank Sinatra”. Apologies to Sammy for the last minute drop; if you want another track on here, let me know. Matthew, thanks for reminding me about The Postal Service (same to you, Jay, for Piebald).

Scrabbled Comp #4: Orange You Glad I Didn't Say Banana Phone?
Solid, everybody, 21 tracks solid. I left for Salem immediately after work Friday afternoon, so this one was compiled a little last minute. You’ll notice there are quite a few tracks missing in the folder. Please feel free to help where you can. You can drop it in your folder, my folder, or the comp’s folder, just let me know. Thanks in advance.
Scrabbled Comp #4: Orange You Glad I Didn’t Say Banana Phone?
So the top track, in my opinion, is the Vince Guaraldi Trio song “Great Pumpkin Waltz”. Gosia managed to match the theme and the season. A nod to Jeff for the classic POTUSA jam “Peaches” and Evan’s clever submission. Note I took it upon myself to put all three parts of “King Of Carrot Flowers”; I don’t think anyone has a problem with that (thanks Heidi). I’m curious about the Muscles track, Julia, it has an interesting title. Hutch’s spelling issues have confused me.

*NEW* Scrabbled Comp #3: Are You Having Fun?
Please note that this post is titled the exact same as the last compilation post. I didn’t like that I had all this information about the currently-built playlist, but then had a difference title for the post. So from here on out, I’m going to use the title of the past week’s already-made album.
Scrabbled Comp #3: Are You Having Fun?
So we had some returning artists this week, which is fun. David Bowie and R.E.M. are back. I really enjoyed the Buzzcocks song (never heard it). My top pick is “Do You Wanna Dance?” Mainly because it’s a great question to ask, but also because Sammy had some options for artists, and he went Ramones.

Scrabbled Comp #3: Are You Having Fun?
I’m still finding a few songs. Great turnout, though. I closed up with something a little weird, since my number one choice was mentioned by Travis (and technically Christina); I blame Hutch for reminding me about video game music.
Scrabbled Comp #2: Outta This World
Best submission, in my opinion, is Mandy’s “Laika” for mere reference power. I haven’t even heard the song yet. I wish I thought of it first for Arcade Fire’s “Neighborhood #2 (Laika)”.

Pitchfork Predictions
So that music site that no one talks about is doing a list for the aughts (2000-2009) of the top 200 albums.
Tomorrow they list the top 20. I thought we’d have a little predicting fun tonight. Actually, I could probably name everything Pitchfork will select. These are more selections that I would like to see.
