This is super cool, but not the sort of problema hobbyist could solve. You need a budget to really figure this one out. I think the biggest problem would be image capturing the shredded pieces. The algorithms to piece together the images once they’re scanned in are already out there; hell, I’m sure Adobe’s already solved the issue. But being able to dump in a pile of shredded confetti and getting front/back image captures with uniform lighting (so as not to confuse image processing) is the real bear and I’d imagine you’d need the ability to create some pretty novel devices — like some sort of blower/vacuum that manages to get the confetti traveling on a single plane with image capture on either side.

Don’t we have a rising unemployment problem? Hire a bunch of people, provide each of them with a scanner and a truckload of confetti. Unemployment solved. What’s next?

To John’s point, PhotoShop has had Photomerge since CS3…

I’m sorry if I’ve had a bit of a short fuse lately. I just found out my sister is marrying an Eskimo.

About The Scrabbled

The Scrabbled is a group of people blogging about and linking to all manner of things. Usually we argue and make fun of each other. Everybody knows everybody through somebody so there are no strangers here. Most of us have even met in real life! If you happen to personally know someone here and would like to start arguing with and/or making fun of someone, shoot John an email and ask to sign up. Otherwise, you're just going to have to read in relative silence. Sorry.
