“Pumping Blood” is my favorite.

Can they really be this clueless? Is there really no one who stopped them and said “waaait a minute waitaminutewaitaminute… guys? This is fucking awful. Let’s just delete the tracks and forget about it, ok?”

How unselfware do you have to be to release this stuff?

I was hoping we would hear that these samples were a joke played by the band to poke fun at the negative reception of the first single.

If anything I would think Metallica despite being douches, would be aware enough of how big a trainwreck it was. If for no other reason than I’m sure they’re concerned about their “coolness” and image and what have you. So I can kind of see them realizing it but just not wanting to say anything.

Of course then I heard the part where James Hetfield starts yelling “I am the table!!!” and realize that they may have been just as delusional.

It’s like Metallica got together and wrote some songs and then sent the tapes over to Lou Reed. I doubt there was any thought put into what makes our music work, what makes his music work and how can we merge these two things. Ideally, Metallica should have just taken the role of a session band for Lou Reed.

Does anyone know who produced the album? I’d like to know if there was a third party in there offering any suggestions.

A Rollingstone review in which they make at least one accurate statement. In reference to Lou Reed’s vocals: “He’s still preferable to the Cookie Monster vomit that passes for vocals on many metal records”

Further proof that Rolling Stone has absolutely no business reviewing metal albums, or anything close to it. It’s like an automotive magazine reviewing computers. I’m sure mechanics use computers from time to time, but they’re in no way qualified to print opinions on them.

If anything, I’m still dumbfounded that the rest of the album is if anything WORSE than those original pieces of songs I had heard. I mean on some of them, Lou Reed is barely doing what little singing he already does.

Lars on Lulu:
“In 1984, when hard-core Metallica fans heard acoustic guitars on ‘Fade to Black,’ there was a nuclear meltdown in the heavy-metal community. There have been many more since then. This is something they’ve never heard. Nobody hears rhythms or delivers poetry the way Lou does. It’s not for everyone, but I think it’s a fantastic record.”

Ugh. THe worst reaction to failure is “you guys just don’t get it.”

No, Lars. You are not ahead of your time. You just fucking suck.

Officer Hummel: Turbo Man, we could use a man like you on the force.
Howard Langston: [In Turbo Man outfit] Thanks, I’ll keep that in mind. Oh, I’m sorry about the bike, and the coffee, and the bus, and… the bomb.
