Layered Dip
So I have the following ingredients, to make a layered dip:
- refried beans
- sour cream
- shredded cheese
- shredded lettuce
- diced tomatoes
- diced chiles
- hot sauce
In what order would you make the layers? Would you double up any layers? Does order not matter to you?
Note: this dip will not be heated. Unless, maybe you think it should (and then the sour cream goes on top?).

Can’t say I’ve ever had a layered dip I liked. The whole premise seems faulty. You either get giant chips or you get the top layer or two all over your fingers cause you can’t get all the layers into one bite.
I say fuck layered dips. A good dip should be homogenous. If I wanted people to have options in terms of what sort of things they wanted on their chip, offering them several things layered on top of one another is probably the last method I’d choose. I’d just put out more dips.
I’M BEING HELPFUL.
John is wrong. Layered dips rock. I know, I am the Queen of dips.
You’ll want to use the sour cream as the base, so the tortilla chip can easily dip into it.
Next would be the refried beans, sprinkle the hot sauce on them, next is lettuce, diced chiles and tomatoes on the lettuce.. top with shredded cheese.
Beautiful.
