Seriouseats' Top 10 Hoagie places.

My own favorite, Carmen’s (cause it’s right around the corner from my house) made the cut!

Wow, and Carmen’s is the only one in NJ. Proof that the hoagie is truly a product of Philadelphia?

When I lived in Philly I was practically next door to koch’s deli. Ate their almost daily after discovering it. SO GOOD! I’m actually salivating thinking about it.

I think it’s more proof that they focused their search on Philly and the suburbs. If it was an exhaustive list, there would have been a few places in Atlantic City or Ocean City, as the hoagie is just as much a part of those towns as they are Philly.

Wait, I thought Philly people called them “grinders” or something equally as goofy.

Can’t tell if you’re trolling, or very confused…

No, confused. Where is it that they call them grinders? Or does hoagie in Philly mean something other than “sandwich on a long roll with a bunch of meat and cheese and crap on it” which is how it’s used elsewhere (when it is in fact used at all). Up north in NJ and also in western PA and in Connecticut and parts of NY people use hoagie, hero, sub, whatever all interchangably. But somewhere they call them grinders. I thought it was Philly.

Nah, grinders are more PIttsburgh-area northern pennsylvania. It’s a different kind of sandwich, too, with thicker cuts of meat.

And while a hoagie is definitely a sub, not all subs are hoagies. There’s a bit more to hoagie prep than any-old foot-long sandwich — most notably, the roll (luscio’s, sarconne’s, or amaroso) and the italian meats.

I finally broke up with her because she didn’t respect my boundaries. She thought it was “humiliating” to have her Girlfriend Passport stamped every time I let her use my bathroom.
