Oh man, St Vincent’s cover of Big Black’s “Bad Penny” — fucking awesome. I have such a crush on her I may start hanging posters of her on my ceiling above my bed.

Carrying this over from the facebook discussion, seriously I just seriously have issues with this. I realize that the author pretty much helped put this thing together, so it’s not like these bands were glomming onto it for their own purposes and without anyone’s permissions or anything so I can’t solely blame them. But still as I said in the other discussion, of all the bands currently working and putting out records who have actually been influenced by the bands in the book, this batch of bands was really lame.
That being said, after listening to a few more of them, some of it wasn’t as bad as I thought on first pass. Some of it was hot fucking garbage though.
You know what else was hot? Annie Clark. mah gawd.
