Due to the rigorous task of being a father supportive of his kids interests, I’ve now sat through the first (I think) 5 of the movies in this series. Not horribly done, but good lord how redundant are these books/movies.
How many times can you tell the same story of “Harry and his friends explore a mystery at their school. They think it’s one adult who is behind it but ‘SHOCK!!!’ it’s actually another adult who they never expected!!!!! And the adult they thought was bad is actually GOOD!!! OMG” It’s pretty much Scooby Doo but with wizards. Do the last couple differ from this formula at all because the first 5 didn’t and I need to know what I’m in for with the rest of these things.
I mean if it were just attributable to “Hey, it’s kids stories. Who cares.” then I’d agree. But the adult interest in and praise for these things confounds me.
my biggest problem with it, is that in the beginning of each movie they learn something new, that conveniently comes in handy at the end of the movie.
“Hi, I’m the new defense of the dark arts teacher, and I will teach you how to do this new thing this year.”
Harry- “Oh no! We are in trouble, it’s a good thing I learned this new spell this year that solves this exact problem!!”
Ryan, what seems so obvious in the movies is much less so in the books. Simply beceause in the books, they learn 400 new things in the beginning of the books and it all gets cut out in the movies, only leaving time for the one new thing that’s relevant to the plot. The rest all divulge into sideplots and funny stories that never make it on screen.
