2011 Baseball Season

Baseball is finally here! Who’s excited?? What are everyone’s predictions for the year?

Here are my predictions. Keep in mind, I’m trying to be objective. The fan in me would like the Phillies to go 162-0 then plow through the playoffs with 3 consecutive sweeps.

NL Playoff Teams:
Rockies
Cardinals
Braves
Phils (WC)

AL Playoff Teams:
A’s
Twins
Red Sox
Yanks (WC)

Division Series:
Phils over Rockies, Braves over Cards, Sox over A’s, Yanks beat Twins
LCS:
Braves over Phils, Red Sox over Yanks
WS:
Sox over Braves, 4 games to 2.

This is the golden age of baseball for Phillies fans. Anyone who says ‘I liked it better when they sucked’ deserves to be shot. I will track you down, strap you to a chair, and make you watch tapes of Mark Leiter’s starts until you take back your ridiculous statement.

Watching the starting 5 dominate should be fun. Pitching will be enough to get the Phillies back to the playoffs. Unfortunately, I think a lack of offense will doom them again once they get there. I hope I’m wrong.

Other 2011 MLB stories to follow:

-Barry Bonds’ shrinking testicles being discussed in a federal courtroom.
-Sir Albert’s upcoming free agency.
-Will Mets fans start jumping off the Throgs Neck Bridge in droves?
-Will a prolonged NFL lockout make baseball the nation’s pastime once again? (I can dream, can’t I?)

Why is everyone loving the Braves and Giants all of the sudden? They have just as many question marks as the Phils, if not more. I guess the national media likes to see Philly fail.

I didn’t know I was a member of the national media.

The Braves are everybody’s “sexy dark horse” pick this year. But I have one of my own:

Red Sox over Rockies in the WS.

My only other predictions are that the Cubs MAY win the NL Central and the the SF Giants will finish in last place in the West.

The Giants will finish last? As in behind the D-Backs? That’s bold.

Hey man…I’ve got nothing to lose here.

The Giants caught every possible break last year. I don’t think that happens again. Last place though? The pitching is still good.

i agree. i just can’t see the giants doing it again this year at all.

i have:

Phils, Rockies, Reds
Giants in Wild Card

Red Sox, Twins, A’s
Yankees in Wild Card

I think the giants are done in the first round.

I don’t like it better when they sucked, but I really really miss being able to walk up to a game and get tickets. Like, I miss that a whole lot. Almost enough to wish for a shittier team. I’m really not an ESPN sort of baseball fan. I just like to go the the game and follow my team and these front-runner douchebags make it really hard.

And I remember Mark Leiter’s start. I was at the game.

See? The Giants are 0-1, are currently in last place, and the DBacks have a game in-hand.

I’m reaaaaaaaaally debating getting MLB.tv. It’s fucking $120 for the season, but I don’t have a TV in my office and I’m so often in here when the game’s on…

I love going back and looking at these posts. Sorry Travis, I don’t think the Giants will finish last.

Oh boy, I am so wrong in so many ways:
1. Giants look pretty good. (and may get better with Beltran)
2. There’s no way the Cubs are winning any division, anywhere.
3. The Rockies are all but out of it. (even though they’re a historically great second half team)
