Genetic Algorithm

Interesting application that models genetics using 2-wheel driving as the “dominant” trait. (Not sure I understand the colors completely.)

I’ve left this open for the past hour or so. I’m at generation 14 and they’re starting to get pretty successful. What’s funny is that a few generations ago, there were a few breaking 200. Now non of them are breaking 150 as the mutations have brought in negative traits from less successful hybrids.

I’m pretty sure the colors indicate which hybrid that shape/wheel/block/joint/whatever originally came from. What I’m not sure about is how it determines the breeding process — that is, how it determines which shapes get passed on and which don’t. Either way, it seems to work because all the tiny wheels got very quickly weeded out and everything is now mostly motorcycle shaped.

I left it running on Monday at work and it’s been running ever since. The highest i’ve seen it go was 215.3, but judging by the graph, it never got much higher than that.

That’s sort of what I expected. After gen 20-30 or so, you’ve already reached at least a few ideal forms. Any further mutations to those forms will make them slightly less suitable. So they remain one away from perfect with the occasional perfect round, then one away again.
