Philly Triathlon

In light of getting in better shape lately & generally being healthier, I’m signing up for this bad boy in June (the Sprint, not the Olympic). Any other takers?

I’d love to. But then I think about all the time I’d have to invest into getting in shape. And then I want to much less.

I could probably do this. My knee has been really bothering me during recent runs. I think it’s the cold weather (it usually doesn’t hurt so much).

In what body of water is the swim portion?

I’m loving my gym time, lately. It helps that I lost a crapload of weight over the summer, though. The swim is in the Schuylkill, which I would generally cringe at, but according to one of last year’s triathletes, was surprisingly clean.

Holy crap, this is this weekend. I’m as ready as I’ll ever be for being the laziest ever at training. I think I have a decent chance at survival, at least. My goal is to finish in under 2 hours. We shall see!

It’s a sprint triathlon I guess? My friend Kurt just did one this past weekend and “unofficially” finished at 1 hour 57 minutes. Under 2 hours is a tough time but where he lacked in the bicycling, you might make up.

I really should do one of these soon.

Yep, I’m doing the Sprint (the Olympic distance is on Sunday). Under/at 2 hours seems pretty doable to me but if it doesn’t happen, so be it. I’m only doing it for fun, really. I can’t ever see myself doing anything like this as a serious competitor. I like being in shape but I have other hobbies, hehe.

Good luck, you mad woman.

In the end, my results were: Swim 00:26:26, Bike 00:57:24, Run 00:40:06, Final 02:11:59. The run did me in and I was out of breath/walking for much of it. However, I hate running so this does not surprise me.

I’m signing up again for next year, but I might just decide on doing the Aquabike, which leaves-off the running portion. That would be really fun and I wouldn’t feel like I’d need to save my legs for the damn run.

Good job! How long is each section? Attempting this sounds like a lot of fun.

For the Sprint, the swim was .5 mile, bike was 15.8 miles & run was 3.1 miles. Totally doable for most active people in any sort of passable shape! The Olympic distances were approximately double that of the Sprint – much more difficult.

There are even relay options, which also sound fun.
