Tron: Legacy
Has anyone seen it yet? I got around to the IMAX/3D showing last night in King of Prussia and was sadly kind of unimpressed.
(possible spoilers)
Well, I wasn’t sure I liked it much, but I do keep thinking about it. The soundtrack worked really well most of the time, but I don’t think Jeff Bridges realized he was even in a movie (is he just The Dude forever, now?) and though he was mostly great, sometimes Clu looked kinda cartoonish.
I HATED Zeus aka Wesley Snipes aka “that foppish British guy who isn’t Hugh Grant” – he was a really lame character for supposedly having such a long history on the Grid & he just looked ridiculous. His “Puttin’ on the Ritz” dance moves during the action sequence made me wanna throw something at the screen. Clu’s bald assistant was also completely useless – a bad attempt at comic relief. I also wish there was more of a focus on Tron’s character arc and how he became that mindless evil-doer.
There was also so much blatant borrowing & straight ripping-off of other sci-fi movies that it took me out of the moment quite a few times. On the subject of 3D – it’s still not impressive enough for me to ever see another 3D movie again. I was shocked they still use the same dirty plastic glasses as the Captain EO days – fo’ realz??
The basic storyline was good and I liked the main actors, but I tend to LOVE good peripheral characters and the ones in this movie just kinda sucked.

3D gives me a headache. A bad one.
As much as I love the original Tron, after the second or third trailer came out, it became pretty apparent that this movie was going to be really stupid — all style and no substance. I’ll probably download it at some point and check it out after my expectations have been so lowered that I might actually end up enjoying it.
3D gave ME a bad headache and I always get distracted by pulling the glasses up & down to see if the scene really is in 3D or not.
It was a little better than stupid and had some substance, but the adherence to that substance was spotty at best. I go into these movies with no expectations. The only one that impressed the hell outta me lately was Star Trek and that’s already how many years old…
Kevin said:I loathe 3d. If it weren’t for the fact that 9 out of 10 kids movies are in 3d I would never by choice go to see a 3d movie.
One of the previews was for something called “Mars Need Moms” or some such and it looked liked the absolute worst & thinly-veiled attempt at a 3D kids’ film. Seriously, are kids’ movies really that bad now? I was talking to a guy at work about how “Home Alone” would never be a kids’ movie nowadays because of the violence & mild cursing. Still one of the funniest movies I have ever seen.

You should have skipped this shit show (I didn’t see it, but it looks awful and everyone says it’s awful) and seen True Grit. It’s gotta be pretty rare for one guy to star in two movies that are out at the same time, one being horrible and the other being great.

Yes. They really are pretty damn bad. Some of the pre-teen actual movies (meaning not cartoons) aren’t horrible (I’m thinking Diary of a Wimpy Kid which I took my daughter to and which was mildly entertaining in an old school way.
But the cartoons are horrible. It was bad enough when everything was crappy computer animation and had to feature like snowboarding “extreme” armadillos or wisecracking, Robert Deniro imitating fish or whatever. But now everything with the goddamned 3D and all the kids with their short pants and the flibbertijibing flim flamming. But seriously it’s pretty bad.
I really try not to be one of these “Stuff back in my day was better and kids things today suck!” types. But while they like the stuff that’s out now for them they do seem to like more the things like Home Alone or Pee Wees Big Adventure or Short Circuit and things like that.
