Cliff Lee rejoins the Phillies, creates the single greatest pitching rotation of all time.
ALL TIME.

ya’ll are forgetting a few starting rotations that may trump ours..
1993 Atlanta Braves Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine, Steve Avery, John Smoltz
1971 Baltimore Orioles, four 20-game winners.
all in all I’m pumped about this season. I’ve said it before and i’ll say it again, joe blanton is my favourite pitcher on the phills
Here is a quick comparison on the aforementioned comparisons of rotations:
1971 Orioles:
Mike Cuellar: 20-9, 3.08 ERA
Pat Dobson: 20-8, 2.90 ERA
Jim Palmer: 20-9, 2.68 ERA
Dave McNally 21-5, 2.89
Total: 81 wins from the starters
1993 Atlanta Braves:
Greg Maddux: 20-10, 2.36 ERA
John Smoltz: 15-11, 3.62 ERA
Tom Glavine: 22-6, 3.20 ERA
Steve Avery: 18-6, 2.94 ERA
Total: 75 wins from the starters
The Phils got 70 of their 97 wins from their starters and that was with a half season of Oswalt and no Lee, so who knows. Still have to play the games, hope no one gets injured and we will see what happens. Enjoy the ride though!

I was getting this feeling too. Sure it’s exciting news, but do you really want it to be that easy? If I were a huge Phillies fan, I would start to feel like my cheering and support were nil factors at this point.

Yeah, there is a chance that the Phils could have this wrapped up by the ASG, and yes it will be pretty boring the rest of the way until playoff time but there is a shot of history here.
1) Having 4 20 game winners
2) Having 4 pitchers hit the 200 K mark (never been done)
3) 4 starters with an ERA under 3 (will be tough, don’t know if its ever been done)
And the Manc is right on. Right now, at this moment they are the team to beat. They were the team to beat after they got Oswalt last year and we saw what happened. They have to play the games. It will be an exciting season and its a great time to be a Phils fan!
Rumors abound that Pedro might be back, too:

Ha!…Yeah, that is pretty much how I envisioned the Werth/Lee conversation. Poor Jayson.
No to Pedro. He is only good for about two and a half months as it is, and he hasn’t pitched competitively since 2009. Plus whoever is the 5th starter can expect to be skipped in the rotation whenever possible and will probably never see the light of day come playoff time. Better to give the spot to Kendrick or Worley.

Four 20-game winners?? Come on now, be realistic. None of these things are going to happen.

They should become the first team with 4 200 K pitchers in history. Hamels and Halladay hit the mark last year, Oswalt was 7 shy and Lee missed by 15, mainly because he missed the first month of the season.
The 20 game winners will be harder to accomplish, but it could happen. It might be more realistic to assume 2 20 game winners and 2 15 game winners. If this offense rebounds to what they did in 08 and 09, then there is a greater chance that it happens. Who knows, only time will tell.
