Ipad?
I’m 77% sure I’m going to buy an Ipad. Any Scrabblers have one? Love it? Hate it? I don’t have a home computer and can do all my Word/Excel BS at work. I just need a home gadget for fun stuff and don’t want to drop a load on a new MacBook. Also, anyone know if Mac is having Black Friday sales?

Well, you already know this Heidi, but for Steve’s sake, yes, we’ve got one and we love it. We use it just about every day from anything to random couch internet surfing to reading LOTS of pirated comic books to the occasional purchased ebook (usually tech books — feels silly to buy all that paper when it’ll be obsolete in two years). I have a bunch of music apps but I don’t use them much more than just for playing around. I’ve heard there are some apps that are fantastic for production (apparently the new gorillaz album will be all ipad-recorded?). I also like to load a season or so of a show on it and watch it bed or something.
I highly recommend getting the 32gb model because I use up 13gb on apps alone. That leaves very little room on the 16gb model for anything like music, pictures, books, or video.
I just went through the laborious process of figuring out which Apple product was best for me. It is well documented (and I’m made to feel like an asshole) in another recent thread if you would like to check it out.
I’m probably not going to be much help to you here though. I probably only “needed” an iPad, but I ended up buying a Macbook Air and so far it’s been a great decision. This thing is just about as portable as the iPad but so much more functional. It became a no brainer to me eventually.
We (actually my wife) has one as well. It’s pretty great. Especially if you don’t already have a laptop. Personally even though we have one in the house, I’d still just assume use my Macbook and can’t really imagine why you’d need one if you have a macbook of any kind (or you are John in which case forces of logic, reason, and any semblance of fiscal discipline are not in the equation). But yes, if you’re looking for something Mac but don’t want to spend the extra money then I highly recommend it. The games are fun, you can watch movies and tv shows on it, e-mail, web browsing, and lots of other features.
I have one. Bought it after my laptop and iPod phased themselves out of usefulness. It has replaced both for me very nicely. It really is 98% a consumption device, so you should definitely evaluate what your needs are before getting one. I tried out a bunch of laptops and netbooks first and hated all of them before giving in. Mine is the 64gb wifi (I don’t care about dealing with a data plan). I have a desktop for all my normal computing needs but this has been awesome for on the couch and on the go use.
