Soccer + Science > the French
Pretty nifty article on a soccer related topic. Awesome goal(s) as well!

not sure if this is new news, honestly, this seems like simple maths to me, take gravity out of the equation and any obstacles, of course the ball would continue on that path as would a billiard ball hit with spin if there was no friction on the table. I have always said the second goal (first clip) was his masterpiece. I actually believe Barthez was just not ready for that free kick.
Sounds like a bunch of french dudes are just embarrassed about it and calling it “impossible” seems like less of a loss. A spinning, imperfect sphere + velocity + drag + gravity == a curving ball. No one’s inventing new physics to explain Aroldis Chapman’s slider. We’re all well aware of how it works and physics does a fine job of explaining it. Acting like this dude discovered something takes credit away from the countless pitchers centuries ago throwing sinkers and curves.
While we’re on the topic of Europeans and curving spheres… I was wondering… do cricket pitchers bowlers throw curves at all? Or is it pretty much just all velocity?
