I’m pretty sure I’m professionally obligated to see this movie.
But yes, I’ve been reading about and getting pumped for this movie for a long, long time. I’ve seen some interviews with Zuckerberg and George Michael seems to be doing a pretty spot-on job. The fact that all of this is true and much of it is coming to light for the first time in this flick is pretty awesome, too. Even if this were some shitty documentary, I’d be pumped. But a pretty fantastic looking Fincher flick that isn’t afraid to play up Zuckerberg as the sycophantic little creep he truly seems to be… that’s pretty exciting.
My love of Jesse Eisenberg and the Scala & Kolacny Bros. version of “Creep” (and my fascination with the purported sneery hateful bitterness of Facebook’s founder) is counterbalanced by my loathing of the cinematic trope of attempting to make people watching things on a computer screen interesting. Hope there’s not much of the latter.
You know when people in a thriller or action movie sit tensely in front of a monitor and watch a download progress bar or try to hack into a company’s secret secure network or deftly navigate an OS that will keep the killer bipedal dinosaurs at bay? Easily the worst goddamn thing in the entirety of moviemaking in the last 25 years.
