Huh! Interesting. Sorta reminds me of the translation of Brothers Karamazov I read. Apparently for centuries, people knew a really bland and unfunny version of the book cause the translation made no attempt to translate the jokes, puns, or tone. The one my Russian prof recommended to me, though, definitely had wit.
