New Folk Punk

So I just got back from a trip to San Francisco to see Eddie (some of you know him), and he is on a folk punk kick right now.

He introduced me to a couple of bands that I am probably going to be obsessed with for the next couple of weeks. I don’t know how ahead of/behind the curve I am on them, although I’m sure our resident Brits and Anglophiles have heard of these guys already. Anyway, I just thought I’d share:

Frank Turner – Photosynthesis

Mumford and Sons – Little Lion Man

oh i just realized you may not know what xpn is. it’s a member-supported public radio station in philly that plays everything from frank turner, to tom waits, to neutral milk hotel, to kd lang and everything in between.

Eddie told me about Frank Turner a while back and I spread the word a little bit to people I thought might get into him, but no one was really all that receptive. I do have a standing challenge, though, that it’s impossible not to nearly-cry (at the very least) when listening to the lyrics to Long Live the Queen… although for people like Hutch, who doesn’t like “run-of-the-mill” singersongwriters, you might have to read the lyrics instead.

Hutch did tell me about Mumford & Sons a week ago. Have it, haven’t really listened to it yet.

Yeah, Frank Turner just doesn’t doing anything for me. Nothing stands out about him or the songs and it’s all very emotionally flat.

I don’t think I told you about Mumford & Sons, though, Sam. Wish I had, though, cause they’re kind of outstanding.

Must’ve been Eddie. Man, he’ll be pissed to read I miscredited it to you… I think he might be a lurker.

Wisdom

Two babies were born on the same day at the same hospital. They lay there and
looked at each other. Their families came and took them away. Eighty years
later, by a bizarre coincidence, they lay in the same hospital, on their
deathbeds, next to each other. One of them looked at the other and said, "So.
