The person who wrote the lead in to that clip is clearly a moron and has never seen this show. Appearing on that show is pretty much the epitome of cool and all the interactions are that intentionally horribly scripted and delivered. It’s a kids show, but is about 8 million times cooler than anything on the food network (and I love the food network, but that just makes me un-cool).
I kinda agree with Kevin. This past weekend I spent time at my brother’s house and we watched a little Yo Gabba Gabba with his daughter. At first I was highly skeptical of the show’s merits, but by the end of the episode I have to admit I was a little entertained by its randomness.
I certainly wouldn’t go out of my way to watch it, but it’s something I wouldn’t be pissed off was on in the room (like so many other things that baby is made to watch).
Case in point: The Ting Tings on the show
And then there’s the manager of Flight of the Conchords doing a “Cool Cool Cool Trick.” I want to see more of these segments.
I mean, I’m not anti-kids show or one of these parents who insist his kids not watch current kids shows because the ones I had when I was young were so superior or any of that jazz. But I could seriously watch this show all day. I think we have every episode.
I mean seriously. Rahzel the Human Beatbox? Jan from the Office? Biz Markie? The Flaming Lips…The Roots….Mates of State…..The Shins….The Aqua Bats..talking germs…..the flamboyant DJ Lance Rock presiding over the whole proceedings?
I also don’t like kids shows and movies that are more about the parents and stuff they think is cool than what the kids actually like (in other words if I’m watching and chuckling at the references but they are just bored senseless by it). But this show absolutely bridges that gap better than anything out there. I definitely put it on par with Sesame Street and the Muppets and their same basic deal of having cool human guest stars while not sacrificing what kids find entertaining about it.
