When DJ culture makes it's way into literature.
A pretty interesting look at plagiarism, that, curiously, has nothing to do with McSweeneys.

I’m not someone who is against sampling, or against musicians covering other artists, or even against movie remakes or even the whole genre splicing stuff in writing (the jane austen/zombie/sea monster books coming to mind). But I also think to some degree this whole “it’s a generational thing, maaaaaaaan” is getting to be an excuse for artistic laziness. Rather than being used sparingly and creatively, all the things I listed above are now the norm and I’m afraid it’s stifling true creative and innovative works.
Of course like a lot of cultural debates the big question I always come back to is “Who decides?” And I rarely, if ever have an answer to that question.
I think so long as it doesn’t take over the medium, it’s a good thing. I mean, the little sly wink of “I find inspiration everywhere” when the character in her book is straight up asked if he came up with that himself is clever in and of itself, but if I start seeing that sort of thing everywhere, it’s going to become insufferable.
