do you guys do anything for valentine's day?
i know it’s a ridiculous made-up holiday, but seriously, you doin’ anything?
if you’re like john and you regularly send flowers and do romantic stuff (so he says), then not celebrating valentine’s day with more than an extra “i love you” is validated.
how about you other scrabblers? are you going anything/doing anything with your significant others?
are you single people out there looking for a date?

Wait, John Hutchinson says he does this? Is he being sarcastic? Or is it more likely that he’s the geek equivalent of the dude who buys his wife a bowling ball or golf clubs as a present because those are his hobbies and considers that a romantic gesture?
“Look honey, I hid your name in a cryptogram in this batch of code I wrote for my freelance job.”
“Hey Gosia I made this nice romantic dinner of braised short ribs that I…..er I mean that you….er that I think you said you wanted to try…….oh and by the way I also invited 10 people over to eat and hang out and play X Box and watch that Lithuanian movie where the guy pulls out his own fingernails as a metaphor for mid 19th century facism that I saw mentioned on Reddit……you know, because I’m romantic and stuff.”
I’m playing two hockey games and probably grabbing some food with the lady in between. I was very happy to hear that she was in agreement that Valentine’s Day is bullshit, but I guess I won’t know if she was being truthful until the day is over. We’re taking a trip to Montreal and Quebec together next week though, so she’s getting a good dose of romance anyway.

she doesn’t think it’s all bullshit. believe me.
ooh montreal? i went there on vaca once. please make sure you go here if you’ve never gone. it’s one of the most beautiful places i’ve ever been inside in my entire life. and it looks like that picture. it’s absolutely beautiful.
Kevin. Awesome response.
It’s Birthlentines for me, however, I just spent the majority of my day cleaning (which I really wanted to do). The real celebration is in two weeks where I’ll be heading to Utah to snowboard with my gentleman caller. The rest of my day will consist of binging on homemade Mexican food and beer and playing Cranium.
Christina, that church is amazing.
We went to Pittsburgh for the weekend because future hubs had a basketball game at Duquesne on sunday (his team lost. it was sad.) Our friend Mike came along too. Primanti Brothers was tasty but not necessarily romantic. I don’t give a shit about Valentine’s day and I think it’s a bullshit Hallmark holiday, but because he is having a difficult basketball season and we’re getting married an’ shit, I bought him a card. He didn’t give me anything but he said it’s forthcoming. I really could care less about it all.
After waking up around 2:00 in the afternoon and digging through the Valentine’s Day candy my mom mailed to me, I watched a woman dance on the side of a hotel building while attached to a bungee cord (supposedly the most southern vertical dance in the world!) and ate Chilean pizza. My romantic boyfriend made a heart and our initials on his pizza with ketchup. Then we watched The Wrestler. It was a really good day.
The woman and I went to Ruth’s Chris steakhouse. It wasn’t a very good time.

wtf i would have called this morning and talked to the manager. places like that, who pride themselves on being “upscale,” need to be called out when they fuck up. that’s unacceptable.
the host was kind of a dick last night, but our waiter was amazing and everything else was great.
i would recommend never going out to eat on holidays. they are almost always overpriced and the food and service generally suffer. christina is right, you really should speak to a manager. in fact, you should always talk to a manager if you have a problem. any problem.
i only made an exception to go out this year because it was sunday brunch, there was no special menu and i could walk-in without a reservation.
I’m wondering if other people called. The same thing essentially happened to the entire restaurant. I awarded our optimal-performing waiter with a 5% tip. I’m sure he might be able to get a sandwich. Somewhere.
I’m not going to call because I don’t want to go back to that place. . . even if they were going to give us a free meal. Fuck those people.
luke said:the 5% tip. thats what i mean. you are free to leave any amount you wish. 5%, 25%, 0… but just leaving a bad tip does nothing to address the problem. leave the 5%, but tell the manager about it before you walk out the door.
yep. and if he or she is working at ruth chris, if you gave him nothing, he ain’t starvin. giving him nothing would make him think twice about his service. giving him a low tip just makes YOU look like an asshole.

You’re right. I shouldn’t have left anything.
probably not. i wouldn’t have left a dime. BUT i would have told the manager why i wasn’t leaving a tip. best case scenario, you get part/all of your meal comped. worst case scenario, the problem is at least addressed.
for the record, if you ever leave less than 15-20%, you’re going to look like an asshole.
Like most holidays as parents, Valentines day has become more about the kids than us. Which is fine. We went out for a nice romantic night out and an amazing dinner in NYC last weekend. Today I made the kids heart shaped red pancakes for breakfast and tonight will put together the hot wheels tracks we got Dylan for Valentine’s day. I bought my wife flowers yesterday. Of course Dylan insisted on giving them to her so I think he got the credit.
I’m bringing my lady friend here in a few minutes:

She’s getting some flowers too, but nothing fancy.
My friend and I went out and the entire evening was so great.
First, we had thai food, which was amazing for several reasons:
a.) they gave us free mango salsa with pita chips
b.) I somehow got a free glass of wine
c.) we also somehow got a free dessert parfait
d.) since I had a buywithme coupon, we had two meals for the price of one (yes I tipped for the full bill)
Then we went to see Mortified and I laughed so hard I cried while munching on free candy hearts.
Afterwards, we went to the Reagle Beagle and had some wine and chocolate cake with coconut icing with pecans and buttercream frosting.
