Scotch Egg

So, I was putzing around on Wikipedia a little while ago. I like to pick a random topic and then follow interesting links so that I end up somewhere completely unexpected.

I’m not sure how, but I ended up on a page describing a Scotch Egg. Now, I know we have a Brit or two here, and these things are apparently very common as street food over there, so I was wondering what you guys thought as far as me going out of my way to try to grab one of these.

There is a restauarant in Kearny (not too far out of the way for me) that makes them, pic here. Should I check that place out, try to make some myself, or just avoid them completely?

they are one of the greatest snack foods ever. I miss being able to buy them at petrol stations.

What Mandy said and they are not too difficult to make. I love them, especially with HP sauce for dipping.

Mmmmm… HP sauce. Rumor has it these are supposed to be served cold, but they look like something I would rather eat hot/warm. I’m almost definitely stopping by that restaurant tonight. I plan to spend most of today buidling up the courage to get the haggis after my scotch egg appetizer.

That really sounds good.

Except Harry Potter’s sauce. I resent it for inventing its own language. Muggles. Fuck you.

if you’re ever at a petrol station in England, pick up a Ginsters Scotch Egg Bar – fucking greatest thing ever. scotch egg bars/mini scotch eggs, deviled eggs & egg mayonnaise & bacon sandwiches are the only time i ever eat mayo.

Please tell me these don’t come out of a vending machine. Is this the equivalent of a burrito at 7/11 (i.e., from the fridge case and then nuked)?

no vending machine. very much like the 7/11 burrito, but never nuked. you need to forget about this “warm scotch egg” idea. cold is excellent & room temp will suffice.

Wow I’ve never heard of HP sauce before. Is it any good? I just read that it’s malt vinegar-based with a fruit/spices. Is it thick or watery?

Huh. HP sauce almost sounds like Hoisin/“chinese bbq” sauce

To me the nearest thing to HP over here is, funnily, A1 sauce.
HP has its own place with a typical English breakfast. It works wonders with Black Pudding and mixes well with tinned plum tomatoes and fried bread.
Not good with chips, that is chips not crisps. Although there was an HP flaour crisp released once.
Now I miss all my home foods….bah.

When I first saw the picture on Wikipedia, I thought this was another funny name for what the Cracker Barrel calls an “egg in a basket.” The toast with the centers cut out and eggs cooked in them. Those are just plain ol’ breakfast fun.

Wisdom

I never joined the army because at ease was never that easy to me. Seemed rather uptight still. I don’t relax by parting my legs slightly and putting my hands behind my back. That does not equal ease. At ease was not being in the military. I am at ease, bro, because I am not in the military.
