Miles Kurosky
The lead singer of Beulah is touring and apparently planning to play some Beulah songs. I’m pumped, and I’m sure at least some of you will be as well.

i got my tickets several weeks ago to the philly show. im pretty sure it’s sold out. jay, did you get tix to the new york show? i didn’t look into it.
I didn’t get tickets yet, but I can most likely get on the guest list. And I’m not sure how you posted about this already because Miles just made the announcement that he will be playing Beulah songs on Tuesday…
well yes, he did just say that recently but he announced his tour several weeks ago. i guess i assumed you were mostly announcing he was going on tour.
i have an e-mail out to interview him for a new philly blog i’m writing for. i’m sure he’ll do it – i’ve interview him before and now, it’s just him so i think he’ll agree.
anyone else going to the philly show?

Quality isn’t very good. People screaming was a little annoying. We butchered the words. But hey, it’s been 7 years and this was very nice. I miss Beulah a lot.
im glad you went! for us, the first “cover” song he played was my fave beulah song – emma blowgun’s last stand. then, people yelled out tracks and he played like 30 seconds of each – like gene autry, silver lining, y.o.k.o., if we can…(another person fave.) then, he ended with another beulah song – popular mechanics.
i’ve been fortunate enough to see beulah about four or five times since high school. and those songs still made me feel so good when i heard them.
i think apple for an apple is a superb song and even though it came out two years ago, it’s one of the best songs i’ve heard from anyone in a long time.
Yeah, it seems like he played pretty much the same set in NYC except he played all of “Landslide Baby” instead of the 30 second snippets. It was fun to hear the songs but honestly the over-riding sentiment for me, and for what seemed like most of the room, was less excitement over the new stuff (which is actually really good) and more sadness over the fact that Beulah is gone.
An interesting note: in response to the poor turn-out that you mentioned in Philly (25 people?), Miles took a couple of shots at your city. I think he said “City of Brotherly Love my ass!” or something like that.
Also, the opening act was awful, and I was kind of bummed out to see that they were backing Miles too. I couldn’t help but wish that Bill Swan was there, working his ass off playing several instruments like he used to. This new band really didn’t do Beulah justice.
oh he did play landslide baby, i forgot about that one. in addition to those snippets i mentioned.
he started with about five songs off of the new record and i didn’t really see anyone singing along. i hadn’t bought the record until that night but i did know about three of the songs he played and figured most everyone would know “an apple for an apple” since that song has been out for a while. i mean, if you’re 1 of 25 people there, i expect you to be a diehard.
yeah people in philly were pretty damn quiet. i’m not one to shout out “you rock!” or “i like your hat” but i thought i was being a pretty good fan. at johnny brenda’s in philly, there is a balcony that’s not even that high up off the ground and is actually a perfect place to see a band there, since the stage is a bit high for such a small place. halfway through the set, probably more, i went downstairs and stood in front of everyone by myself right in front of the stage and sang along to each song. naturally, there were the hippie swaying girls who went nuts when “popular mechanics” came on.
but during songs, when everyone was tuning, people were quiet. i wasn’t a fan of the curly headed bass player nor the other guitarist. they just sorta stood there. the keyboardist however was having a great time.
it was sort of upsetting. like it seemed like miles settled on this band. did you see the liner notes in the album?? there are like 30 people on the record. shit, might as well put beulah back together and start a reunion tour.
