i beat super mario brothers last nite
and it was glorious.
i never had nintendo growing up and never got into video games past counterstrike for pc in college, pac-man on atari and guitar hero/rock band.
so, at age 27, with my dsi in hand, i took about 10 night of playing before bed to finally beat the new super mario bros. for ds.

wait, so is this the original Super Mario Bros? Or the DS remake? If the former, I’m curious: did you have to look up the 8th palace maze order? I can’t imagine figuring that out on my own as a kid. Everything was word of mouth.
I’ve noticed you’ve been hooked on Fable, Sammy, so you might really like Mass Effect. Just a big, sprawling, story-based RPG. In SPACE.
The first couple hours are really irritating. No tutorials and very confusing controls leave you feeling confused… but once you get the hang of it, it’s great. The moral choices feel like they make a difference in where the story’s going and they apparently will carry over into your file for the upcoming sequel. I actually think I’m gonna play through the whole thing again in a different way, just to see where it goes.
And I dig the soundtrack’s “bad 1980’s sci-fi movie’s synthesized score” vibe.
