Evan Better than Slave Driver Hutch

I want to but my dad a record player

The internet is less than helpful; Amazon reviews even on the best product range from great to worthless.

I want something that will work as a regular record player, for both a brand new, top of the line home entertainment dealy, as well as his old stereo he has hooked up to his old record player.

More importantly, something that will allow transfer to a computer, so all his records can be digitized, with the greatest ease possible. He is pretty tech savvy, but the issue would be giving the songs all their information after they were ripped. Ive seen some that contact a service and do it on their own, but are lacking in other areas.

I’m about to hit Vintage Vinyl, but I imagine at least one of you will know a thing or two.

i just researched this exact thing and found a few things worthy on craigslist.

you want to find something that’s plug and play, where there are no drivers needed. also, something with a line input so you can plug other sources into it like a tape player. you want something with an RCA outputs, with built-in preamp. most will play 33 1/3 and 45 RPM’s and are pc and mac compatible.

if something you find doesn’t have the software with it, you can use audacity, a free program, to rip albums. that program allows for finer editing of the songs.

here’s a link to the one i was looking at…

i found someone on CL who was letting his go for $50, so i’d put out an ad if i were you.

obviously, you’d need a receiver and speakers…

I’m pretty sure the one Christina linked is the one I bought my mom for her birthday in 2008

I don’t think she’s ever used it so I dunno.

About The Scrabbled

The Scrabbled is a group of people blogging about and linking to all manner of things. Usually we argue and make fun of each other. Everybody knows everybody through somebody so there are no strangers here. Most of us have even met in real life! If you happen to personally know someone here and would like to start arguing with and/or making fun of someone, shoot John an email and ask to sign up. Otherwise, you're just going to have to read in relative silence. Sorry.
