Their music one is up, too, but I’m not ready to look other people’s lists yet.

O.K. thanks to the iphone I saw the list. I’ve probably seen about half of them. The rest I either haven’t heard of or didn’t see because I had no interest. The only ones seeing on that list that make me rethink my lack of interest are Audition and 25th Hour which I’ve always wanted to see but in the first case was too apprehensive about it being too torture-porny, and the latter because…..no particular reason.
Overall, their end of decade lists have been stellar. My friend and I have been arguing over it all day long.
I’m working up a post for us to talk about our favorite movies of the decade and should have it up soon.
But about this list in particular: is Christopher Nolan really such a stellar filmmaker that three of his films belong in the greatest of the previous tenth of a century? I don’t think The Prestige is something any of us will be thinking about several years from now.
i have seen most of these since i had the good fortune to work at both Ritz and Regal theatres for the first part of the decade. i definitely disagree with having a few on there – The Prestige was nothing special, Moulin Rouge was fucking terrible and AI was blitheringly dull – but a lot of the choices are excellent and include quite a few of my favourite all-time films. it was perplexing to see Amelie was not included, as that movie was damn near perfect.

brokeback mountain and zodiac in a top 50 of the last TEN years?
the only good thing about zodiac was when sam and i were watching it, the power went out and we ran out the dark house with flashlights, scaring each other.
I couldn’t disagree more. I love that movie.
In all, I feel accomplished for having seen many of these, and owning more than a few, also.
I refuse to watch Moulin Rouge, though.
For a similar sort of slow boiled crime thriller, Zodiac was much better than No Country For Old Men. Which I liked, but all the incessant critical spooge that’s been money shot the fuck all over that movie is just dumbfounding to me. Especially in light of the Coen’s other work which I’ve thought was much better.

25th Hour is amazing, get on that.
