Zombie Apocalypse Playlist
Inspiration for this idea came from LA Weekly
Imagine the zombie apocalypse has finally happened, you struggle to live each day fighting off the horde and scavenging for resources. You stumble across an abandoned radio statio, the transmitter doesn’t work but one of the dual tape players does. You only have time to make one mix tape before the zombies break through the station door. What’s your zombie apocalypse playlist?

Wow, so, at first I thought this was going to be a sort of “make a soundtrack to the zombie apocalypse” — the sort of thing you might hear playing in your head as a casual observer.
But now this is seeming more like a desert island mix, no? Like, what are the last 10-15 songs you’d ever want to hear sort of thing. So how do you interpret it?
Ok, here’s my playlist. It’s actually 80 minutes long… if I recall correctly, tapes went 60, 90, and 120 minutes. But fuck it, I have a laptop and a discman in my apocalyptic vision. So 80 minutes it is. I haven’t really thought about a proper order for this. It’s all over the place. But here goes:
- Set Fire to Flames – Steal Compass / Drive North / Disappear
- Motorhead – Ace of Spaces
- Crippled Black Phoenix – Rise Up and Fight
- Justice – Stress
- Tomahawk – God Hates a Coward
- Dead Kennedys – I Kill Children
- Tom Waits – The Earth Died Screaming
- Chopin – No.2 in E-Flat, Op.9/2
- Slayer – Raining Blood
- Iggy & the Stoogest – Search and Destroy
- Ennio Morricone – Man with a Harmonica
- Do Make Say Think – The Landlord is Dead
- Bright Eyes – Don’t know when but a day is gonna come
- Coheed and Cambria – A favor house atlantic
- Johnny Cash – The Man Comes Around (I know it was already in Dawn of the Dead, but it’s so fucking perfect, I’d like to think I’d have put it on here if it wasn’t already pointed out)
- Metallica – The Four Horsemen
- St. Vincent – Marrow
- The Advantage – Castlevania II-Woods
