The Tres Hombres has set sail
I want their lives.
Some of you may know that I spent a bit of time as a crew member on the Barque Europa, a Dutch tall ship, after high school. Three of the other crew members I befriended, Arjen (better known as Boogie), Jorne and Andres, made 2000’s voyage their last as crewmen on the ship and split off to start their own shipbuilding and merchant trading company. Unfortunately, the website is in Friesian…
I’ve kept in touch with Boogie since then, and he just informed me that finally, after nearly 10 years in design and construction, their first full sized trading and training vessel aptly named the Tres Hombres, has made her maiden voyage.
Anyway, I’m super excited for them – they took out the sloop and videotaped it.
It’s just so damn cool.

I know! They’re all such cool guys too. Boogie and I always had our night watches together, and it was just incredible to be out in the middle of the ocean with no engine sounds, and on this incredible ship I really can’t even describe it.
That being said, he said that they have a shipment of rum scheduled for late summer of 2010 that’s coming up from the Carribbean to the northeast somewhere. I’ll see if they’re willing to host a few guests while they’re in port. I think they said they’re planning to bring it into the Chesapeake, and up the Delaware
