jonathan safran foer
was on radio times this morning
and i was listening to him. and first of all, why in the hell did he decide to write non-fiction. especially a book called, “eating animals.”
i learned nothing from the interview that hasn’t been discussed on the scrabbled and various michael pollan publishings. he seemed rather pretentious which irritated me because of the reviews i read, it seems like he hasn’t brought anything new on the table.
anyway, listen for yourself or go www.freelibrary.org/calendar/calbydate.cfm?ID=23351&type=2">hear him speak at the free library of philadelphia tonite.

I had never heard of this guy before this post, so I was anticipating hating him. But this piece didn’t seem too pretentious or offensive. In fact most of it was pretty spot-on (not about not eating meat as much as the notion of change and temporarily quitting things).

wow. i really thought you scrabbled folk would be jumping on jonathan safran foer. he wrote “everything is illuminated!” but, no one really reads on this board.
cue the post about starting a book club that will never happen !

maybe spot on, but nothing new. all sort of recycled ideas. i didn’t read the huff po thing yet, although they did refer to it in the interview.
My coworker read that book and thanks to it he has changed from a vegetarian for health reasons to a vegetarian because “oh noes they hurt teh chikinz and teh pigz.”
It is annoying to me not because of his reasoning for going vegetarian, but because he gets militant about it and judgemental of my (and other people’s) food choices. I hate it.

i don’t really follow. your friend, who is already a veggie for health reasons, read this book (that came out a week ago), and now is a veggie cos of the harsh treatment to animals? like he didn’t know that before?? i’m confused.
and you hate that the author goes militant or your friend? if it’s your friend, fuck your friend and everybody who preaches about eating meat or not eating meat.
