Phils win, 11-0!
not news i know, but how awesome was this game? Cliff Lee easily shutting out the Dodgers, the Phils scoring more runs than the Eagles scored points & Carlos Ruiz making the final catch RIGHT OVER the heads of his teammates!
it reminded me (slightly) of the 22-4 thrashing the Indians gave the Yankees earlier in the season.
so much fun. that is all.

I didn’t pick that up John. Although I did notice the postgame show on TBS was 2 minutes of talking Phils, commercial, followed by A-Rod and the Yanks.
Oh well, what can ya do? Used to it. Plus the players are usually such headcases that the all feed off of perceived ‘disrespect’. Before the series all the Dodgers were talking about being the ‘underdog’. I guess none of them checked Vegas to see how heavily they were favored.
John said:And yet those asshole TBS announcers still made it sound like the Phils had no business playing a team as great as the wonderful LA Dodgers.

eh, it was WAY better than the first two games. they seemed more excited about the phillies this game, since it was a romping, but still not even close to how much they should be talking about the world champs. these old ass announcers just want a proper old timey matchup – dodgers and yankees.

you are all fucking crazy and out of your goddamn minds. philadelphia has such a complex it’s ridiculous. everyone does not hate philadelphia. it’s so stupid. i mean jesus christ, if you want to listen to a bunch of homers gushing about the phillies or eagles, just turn on the radio and mute the tv.
and of course they want a yankees-dodgers world series. the tv ratings would be thru the roof. who watched last year? nobody. it was the lowest rated world series maybe ever
John said:So while I would love to see the Phils beat up on the Dodgers a little more, was anyone else a little bored with last night’s game? I mean, everyone loves a big victory, but c’mon. It stopped being a game at some point. I prefer a nail-biter win.
bored?? not at all. the phils did exactly what they should have done: killed a pitcher not worthy to be pitching game 3 of an NLCS series. i loved every second of it.

I love everything about this post. I would have said something to this effect but 1) I honestly do not care about baseball or sports so it’s much more fun to just amuse myself from a distance and 2) It’s much more effective coming from someone from Philadelphia.
Phillies fans seriously make Red Sox fans seem like the Algonquin Round Table.

Luke, truer words have never been spoken. But, there is some validity for the argument that the Phillies are generally disrespected even though they won the WS last year. It seemed to me on the major sport sites that yes, they did acknowledge the fact that the Phils won, but there was maybe more time spent saying that the Phillies didn’t beat the best team in the AL (the Red Sox) and that the Rays will be around for a long time and this will only fuel their fire for next year.
Even this year, a lot of writers and ‘experts’ picked the Rockies to advance and even more so are picking the Dodgers to go on.
And of course MLB and Selig want a Yankees/Dodgers WS. The two biggest markets in the U.S., the old-time homey feel, A-Rod vs. Manny, Torre vs. the Yanks, a classic stadium again on the big stage, the answer to the question “Can spending $400 million in the off-season really buy you a WS trophy?”. Like Bill Simmons said, “This will be a Series made for HD”
Luke and Evan: I agree that many feel that Philadelphia is always disrespected and hated on, but anyone who does feel that TBS has presented the NLCS from a Dodgers perspective is out of their mind. Now, I’m not saying that TBS is “rooting for the Dodgers” or “against the Phillies”….it just seems to me and many others in and outside of Philly that every move or moment is broadcast with how it affects the Dodgers.
Now, I don’t need to see the Phillies on my screen every 5 seconds, but I certainly don’t want to have to see the Dodgers dugout every 5 seconds. And how many times did we hear last night “That’s what Mattingly wants them to do, make him get the ball up.” Yes, that’s a relevant point, but why was it said over and over and over.
The only way I’ve been able to try to rationalize it to make it acceptable to people, before they go right into the “You’re all crazy with a complex..” idiotic argument (think about it, people with that complex won’t get your argument anyway!), is to say that TBS has been giving the Phillies silent respect. There’s more to talk about with the Dodgers because they expect the Phillies to pitch well, hit well, make smart managerial moves, etc. They also feel that they don’t have to spend too much time praising Rollins, Howard, Victorino, because the nation saw them last year. Loney, Either, Blake, need more of a push. (Like how they talk up Ruiz, who wasn’t highly showcased last year)
Sorry this is way too long, but I see no reason why TBS should be left off the hook, and people should be called crazy and irrational when they have done a horrible job putting on a balanced national broadcast.
WELL SAID! And I’ve definitely also noticed and enjoyed their love affair with Carlos Ruiz. I don’t know if it’s because Buck Martinez was once a catcher himself and just likes to see another young catcher coming into his own, or if it’s your theory about them wanting to focus ont hose who haven’t been given much attention, but it’s good fun either way.
Also, I hate Buck Martinez’s voice. There’s no real qualification to that, just that it’s nasal and I hate the way he says words.
