Scrabbled Comp #4: Orange You Glad I Didn't Say Banana Phone?

Solid, everybody, 21 tracks solid. I left for Salem immediately after work Friday afternoon, so this one was compiled a little last minute. You’ll notice there are quite a few tracks missing in the folder. Please feel free to help where you can. You can drop it in your folder, my folder, or the comp’s folder, just let me know. Thanks in advance.

Scrabbled Comp #4: Orange You Glad I Didn’t Say Banana Phone?

So the top track, in my opinion, is the Vince Guaraldi Trio song “Great Pumpkin Waltz”. Gosia managed to match the theme and the season. A nod to Jeff for the classic POTUSA jam “Peaches” and Evan’s clever submission. Note I took it upon myself to put all three parts of “King Of Carrot Flowers”; I don’t think anyone has a problem with that (thanks Heidi). I’m curious about the Muscles track, Julia, it has an interesting title. Hutch’s spelling issues have confused me.

Album art is in the compilation folder.

  1. George Symonette “Don’t Touch Me Tomato” (Paris)
  2. Aqua “An Apple A Day” (Sammy)
  3. Beck “Peaches And Cream” (Christina)
  4. The Vandals “I Have A Date” (Evan)
  5. Descendents “Sour Grapes” (Kevin)
  6. Final Fantasy “Peach, Plum, Pair” (Hutch)
  7. Pavement “Carrot Rope” (Ryan)
  8. Muscles “Chocolate, Raspberry, Lemon And Lime” (Julia)
  9. Bright Eyes “Bowl Of Oranges” (Travis)
  10. Peaches “Fuck The Pain Away” (Casie)
  11. Guns ‘n’ Roses “Bad Apples” (Matthew)
  12. Scream Hello “35 Plums” (Maggie)
  13. Strung Out “Rotten Apple” (Jay)
  14. Neutral Milk Hotel “King Of Carrot Flowers Pt. One” (Heidi)
  15. Neutral Milk Hotel “King Of Carrot Flowers Pt. Two & Three” (Heidi)
  16. Vince Guaraldi Trio “Great Pumpkin Waltz” (Gosia)
  17. The Meteors “Don’t Touch The Bang-Bang Fruit” (Mandy)
  18. Garbage “Cherry Lips” (Sara)
  19. The Presidents Of The United States Of America “Peaches” (Jeff)
  20. Death Cab For Cutie “Grapevine Fires” (Suzanne)
  21. Herbie Hancock “Watermelon Man” (Paris)

And without further ado, the theme for Scrabbled Comp #5:
Song titles with the full (at least first and last) name of a famous and real person from past or present.

My song selection is “Buddy Holly” off of Weezer’s Blue Album.

I think Jesus Christ counts, especially since Jesus Christ Pose is an awesome song. That’s my vote.

Christ counts as a last name. what a weird question though – i have never pondered that my whole life.

Christ is NOT a last name; it is a title. It’s from the Greek christos (phoenetic spelling), which mean savior. Jesus’ last name would have been Ben Joseph (or whatever the ancient hebrew equivalent of Joseph would have been).

Also, Jesus’ name would have been Joshua (Yo-show-ah), as that is the biblical hebrew form. So the reality of the situation is that Jesus Christ’s real name would have been Joshua Ben Joseph.

Find that song.

My Picks:

Tony Randall by Bikini Kill***

Reinventing Axl Rose by Against Me!

Paul Revere by The Beastie Boys

Meeting Paris Hilton by CSS

If you combine “William, it was really nothing” and “Shakespeare’s Sister” would that count? Both by The Smiths, so it should.

okay, kev just corrected me to say that “King Henry the Fifth” is absolutely not a full name and i must agree that i’m stupid in that case.

i’m now torn between The Clash- Janie Jones, Johnny Cash- The Ballad of Ira Hayes, & The Kinks- David Watts.

i’ll choose soon. both kev & my songs are uploaded into my folder.

I have discovered that I do not know how to upload songs, when I drag them over it just plays them in quicktime, despite all my efforts for that program to never open.

That’s a great idea, but no.

If you use Firefox, just go get FireFTP. If not, talk to somebody else.

I guess Jeff’s explanation killed my first pick, eh? Shit. I’m not crazy about my actual pick. I may have to ask for a replacement with Alex Chilton, but lemme see if I can think of something better.

I have no idea what those things are, and without an FTP upload, I’ll just assume that you’re making up bands to appear hip and old.

In that case, how about “Ty Cobb”?
Well, nevermind, I guess that’s later Soundgarden.

Wisdom

But in the unlikely story that is America, there has never been anything false about hope. For when we have faced down impossible odds; when weve been told that were not ready, or that we shouldnt try, or that we cant, generations of Americans have responded with absimple creed that sums up the spirit of a people. Yes we can. It was a creed written into the founding documents that declared the destiny of a nation. Yes we can. It was whispered by slaves and abolitionists as they blazed a trail toward freedom through the darkest of nights. Yes we can. It was sung by immigrants as they struck out from distant shores and pioneers who pushed westward against an unforgiving wilderness. Yes we can. It was the call of workers who organized; women who reached for the ballot; a President who chose the moon as our new frontier; and a King who took us to the mountaintop and pointed the way to the Promised Land. Yes we can to justice and equality. Yes we can to opportunity and prosperity. Yes we can heal this nation. Yes we can repair this world. Yes we can. -Barack Obama
