*NEW* Scrabbled Comp #3: Are You Having Fun?
Please note that this post is titled the exact same as the last compilation post. I didn’t like that I had all this information about the currently-built playlist, but then had a difference title for the post. So from here on out, I’m going to use the title of the past week’s already-made album.
Scrabbled Comp #3: Are You Having Fun?
So we had some returning artists this week, which is fun. David Bowie and R.E.M. are back. I really enjoyed the Buzzcocks song (never heard it). My top pick is “Do You Wanna Dance?” Mainly because it’s a great question to ask, but also because Sammy had some options for artists, and he went Ramones.

- Animal Collective “Did You See The Words?” (Paris)
- Ramones “Do You Wanna Dance?” (Sammy)
- The Dodos “God?” (Julia)
- Reggie And The Full Effect “Girl, Why’d You Run Away?” (Jay)
- Butthole Surfers “Who Was In My Room Last Night?” (Hutch)
- Jawbreaker “Do You Still Hate Me?” (Kevin)
- The Fucking Champs “What’s A Little Reign?” (Big Bill)
- David Bowie “Life On Mars?” (Jeff)
- The Cars “Why Can’t I Have You?” (Matthew)
- The Flaming Lips “Are You A Hypnotist?” (Christina)
- Buzzcocks “Ever Fallen In Love (With Someone You Shouldn’t’ve)?” (Mandy)
- R.E.M. “What’s The Frequency, Kenneth?” (Ryan)
- Silkworm “Couldn’t You Wait?” (Maggie)
- Television “Ain’t That Nothin’?” (The Manc)
- Third Eye Blind “How’s It Going To Be?” (Casie)
- Animal Collective “Who Could Win A Rabbit?” (Travis)
- Airborne Toxic Event “Does This Mean You’re Moving On?” (Suzanne)
- Pixies “Where Is My Mind?” (Paris)
I’m still working on two songs (see the bold?).
And without further ado, the theme for Scrabbled Comp #4:
Artists or songs that name a specific fruit or vegetable!!!
(Note: The spelling of the fruit/vegetable must be correct)
My song selection is “Don’t Touch Me Tomato” by George Symonette off of the Calypso: Vintage Songs From The Caribbean compilation.
I thought “tomato” would be nice and controversial.
Also, has anyone heard DJ Shadow’s “What Does Your Soul Look Like? (Part 4)”? This was my other idea for the last album’s closing track.
Comments
I hate to pile onto the “apple” bandwagon, but Rotten Apple by Strung Out is one of my favorite songs ever. Suburban Teenage Wasteland Blues has got to be the most underappreciated mid-90s skate(?) punk record there is. God I love this band.
Also very worthy of consideration is Cherry Blossom Color Season from the Katamari Damacy soundtrack. Anyone that can listen to that song and not melt in the face of how adorable it is is 100% dead inside. But I’m not sure if this song fits the criteria anyway because I think a cherry blossom is different than a cherry and not really a fruit or vegetable.
Final recap:
- George Symonette “Don’t Touch Me Tomato” (Paris)
- Aqua “An Apple A Day” (Sammy)
- Beck “Peaches And Cream” (Christina)
- The Vandals “I Have A Date” (Evan)
- Descendents “Sour Grapes” (Kevin)
- Final Fantasy “Peach, Plum, Pair” (Hutch)
- Pavement “Carrot Rope” (Ryan)
- Muscles “Chocolate, Raspberry, Lemon And Lime” (Julia)
- Bright Eyes “Bowl Of Oranges” (Travis)
- Peaches “Fuck The Pain Away” (Casie)
- Guns ‘n’ Roses “Bad Apples” (Matthew)
- Scream Hello “35 Plums” (Maggie)
- Strung Out “Rotten Apple” (Jay)
- Neutral Milk Hotel “King Of Carrot Flowers Pt. One” (Heidi)
- Neutral Milk Hotel “King Of Carrot Flowers Pt. Two & Three” (Heidi)
- Vince Guaraldi Trio “Great Pumpkin Waltz” (Gosia)
- Garbage “Cherry Lips” (Sara)
- The Presidents Of The United States Of America “Peaches” (Jeff)
- Death Cab For Cutie “Grapevine Fires” (Suzanne)
- Herbie Hancock “Watermelon Man” (Paris)
Jay, I love your Katamari Damacy suggestion. I love that song (and that sountrack, note the closer on Are You Having Fun?

Go ahead a pick another real quick!
it names a fictional fruit that just happens to have “fruit” in the name. like starfruit. i would vote it counts.
Hmmm… okay, I said “specific fruit or vegetable” not “real fruit or vegetable” or even “actual fruit or vegetable”. Submission accepted!
