i read an interview with him in newsweek and he didn’t sound that angry at all, and he wished people would stop calling him a “strident athiest” it’s actually a pretty good article. infact he doesn’t even believe that belief in god and evolution are incompatible positions.

Yeah, the dude is much more a scientist than he is a militant atheist. It just so happens his field of study is evolutionary biology, so he got wrapped up in the whole God (though much of it is definitely his fault). And while he is an atheist and argues against the idea of belief as a rational way of living your life, he is definitely more focused and concerned with getting people to recognize the truths that we do know — like evolution. I don’t think he minds if all the world believes in God, so long as they stop trying to teach Intelligent Design in schools and give evolution the credibility it deserves.

I like to imagine how it feels for the object to become music. Imagine you’re the lid to a fifty-gallon drum. That’s your job. You work at that. That’s your whole life. Then one day I find you and I say, "We’re gonna drill a hole in you, run a wire through you, hang you from the ceiling of the studio, bang on you with a mallet, and now you’re in show business, baby!
