Great news. ICANN has long been kinda shady in how they deal with the US. The ’net at large has pretty much been ours since the advent of DARPANet for the defense department. Technically speaking, the web could very well exist and do what it wants without the US, but the way we get from page to page via domain names and IP address (e.g., thescrabbled.com or 75.127.97.86) is controlled in Reston, Virginia.
