Yeah, while obviously I agree with the sentiment I’m always uneasy about parents using their kids to make political or religious or whatever statements especially in school. I mean yes, it’s possible that these kids had just a very casual talk with their dad about the first amendment and came up with this idea all on their own, but……..yeah I doubt it. Obviously this makes me a little less uneasy than say a parent having their kid preach religion or bring a bible to school or whatever. But still.
Agreed, but the whole concept of a pledge of allegiance is creepy just from the outset. The under god part of it is just one creepy sub-aspect of it.
Don’t get me wrong, I’d be proud of my kids if they came up with that all on their own. And if those kids did, then more power to them. I just think fighting creepy indoctrination with other indoctrination isn’t always the best course of action either. And also as long as you’re explaining the risks of standing up doing or saying something in such a situation to kids as well as the moral cause behind it, and they’re still down with it that’s fine.
I just remember with that whole under god lawsuit from the atheist dad a few years back, the kid seemed so upset by it that I failed to see where what he was doing as much as I agreed with the sentiment, that was any less damaging to his kid as a parent than she would have gotten by just not saying that part herself or whatever other options there were.
