Candy Making
i’ve had a cookbook, Who Wants Candy? for about a year now and haven’t gotten around to making anything until recently.
i tried Peanut Cremes this weekend and they turned out dry, but with a bit of tinkering and chocolate-coating, they’ll be awesome.
tonight i made Glass Candy, which was basically corn syrup, sugar, and a dose of colouring and flavoured oils. it was a little daunting boiling sugar to 300 degrees, but it totally worked out well and the candy is AWESOME. it definitely looks like shattered glass and the cherry & watermelon oils i added makes it taste like a mild candy-apple coating.
i should just start making candy and selling/gifting it.

This makes me wish I liked sugar more.
yep, i’ve got a candy thermometer. some of the recipes are more fruit-based so i could probably do trail mix squares or modified granola bars. experimentation is key.
you could stab someone with a hefty shard of the glass candy, then run it under hot water till it melted away. No murder weapon and presto! the perfect crime.
candy making and then gifting it is really great b/c it’s a super cheap way to give a gift that most people love. i make a pretty mean pecan brittle if i do say so myself. i’ve wanted to try making a similar glass candy in various colors and then arranging them like a stained glass window.
