Scribblenauts

So Sammy has made me aware of a new Nintendo DS game that seems awesome enough to warrant me buying the system solely to play it. I’m shocked it isn’t being discussed around here.

Scribblenauts is a puzzle game in which you solve problems by writing in and “summoning” essentially any object/person/character you can think of. The word bank from which this game draws is insane, and as a person with very limited knowledge of programming this seems like a really ambitious effort what with all of the interactions and stuff that need to be accounted for. Am I way behind the 8-ball on this like I usually am or what?

My wife played it yesterday. She made god wear a mech suit, so yeah, this is pretty much a must buy.

I saw some video podcast where a bunch of dudes were trying to find the most bizarre ways to solve puzzles (summoning a baby and stapling meat to it to use as bait for a lion so you could get by it, for example). It looked outstanding. Still, seems something that’d have a relatively short shelf life. I’ll wait for the $5 iPhone version.

I’m entertained by all the media I’ve seen of it, so I’m looking forward to picking this up when it comes out.

I have this same reservation, especially because my attention span for video games is getting smaller and smaller every day. But I’m hoping this is different and that the developers have implemented features to keep you engaged beyond the pure experimental parts of the game.

I’m going to get it one day, then I’m going to summon God to smite all of you with a bag of oranges with knives through them.

I’m looking forward to this game rekindling the same feeling I got from looking up filthy words in the dictionary.

Sounds absolutely awesome. Very Web 3.0, if you will.

While we’re on the subject, the next chapter in the Professor Layton series is coming out soon. I saw an ad in NYC about it. Highly recommended: interesting mystery story angle with challenging puzzles and amazing art/music.

Fuck, I have to get my R4 chip running again. Something went wrong with the software on it. Scribblenauts looks great.

Super Scribblenauts is out, and you can use adjectives now. I gotta get this game.
