Flu Shots
I have never gotten a flu shot in my life. Has anyone on here?
My building is offering to give them out for $20/per person. We need to sign up to get it. I’m not sure if I want a shot for this.
What does The Scrabbled think?

I’ve had them and not had a problem, but I know several people who’ve had some pretty adverse reactions. At this point, I’ll probably just NOT get one. I guess I should also mention that I have never had a “proper flu” before, and since there’s no shot for the common cold, it’s a waste of supplies on me!
I’ve never had one and I’ve gotten the flu…but I’m not going to let that nonsense convince me to allow the government to inject me with tracking devices or some mind control serums!
DON’T DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I NEVER EVER got a flu shot. This past year I mentioned to my doctor that everyone at work was getting them because the flu was so bad the previous school year (I’m a teacher). She said it was totally my decision. So, like a moron, I got the shot. I WAS NEVER SO SICK IN MY LIFE! I had to miss 3 days of work, and my dad had to pick me up and drive me to vote on election day because I was too weak to drive myself. TERRIBLE!
I got the flu about 10 years ago and it was horrible. I mean really bad. Every year after that I’ve gotten the flu shot and never had it again. Same thing with the wife and kids. And all have been in direct contact with people who had the flu and still haven’t gotten it.
Maybe coincidence, but for the $20 cost and no other downside I’m really not planning on taking any chances. I don’t have any issue with other people just deciding not to bother, but being adamantly anti flu shot makes one the exact same as any other anti-vaccination loon.
I don’t do it because of what happened with my grandma. Back in the 70s she got the flu shot and was diagnosed with Guillain Barre Syndrome shortly thereafter, which paralyzed her from the neck down. My mom had to teach her how to use her arms and fingers again by placing Hershey kisses on gramma’s shoulders and making her reach for them. Here’s a scientific report about it: http://www.thinktwice.com/gbs.pdf. She’s not allowed to get the flu shot anymore for fear it’ll happen again and at 94 she probably wouldn’t recover.
If you are young and healthy and do not have a compromised immune system (and do not spend time with lots of children, lots of old people, or others with compromised immune systems), don’t bother to get it. SLOW THE MUTATION!
I never got the shot and got the flu almost every year. It was only when I was 20 that we discovered I had a kidney infection MY ENTIRE LIFE that was putting strain on my immune system, and that is why I was sick so frequently/got routine things so much worse than everyone else. So I got the whole infection thing squared away, but got the flu shot for a couple of years after that just to be safe. I don’t get it anymore.
I have gotten them the past couple years and never had an adverse reaction. As with ANYTHING, you never know.
Most doctors offices give them for free, possibly without paying a copay since the nurse would give it to you. Maybe that would be an option rather than spending the money on it?
I don’t pay attention to the arguments not to, mostly because I’m little hypochondriac and went through chemotherapy 6 years ago, so I prefer to be protected from the 5 strains they determine might be the worst.
