Here’s the thing that perplexes me about Wal Mart. We have one in our town. The unfortunate fact of convenience means that inevitably I do need to shop there no matter how much I try not to and how much I do try and avoid it even at both a financial and a time cost to myself.
But the thing is, while I live in a town that ranges in affluence from multi million dollar homes, to subsidized “projects”, and the 3 towns surrounding us are beyond the shadow a doubt highly affluent and wealthy, the people that I see when I do end up at the WalMart are people like in those pictures. People who any other day of the week, at any other location in our small town, I would never see. Anywhere. Where do they come from? How do they get there?
Of course I say this, but typically when I end up there it is in the middle of me working on some outdoor or home improvement project, and I’m walking around Wal Mart in work boots, torn army shorts, cut off shirts, and arms with spotty, sketchy tattoo work. So in reality I suppose I look…..well…I might not be out of place in some of these pictures.
