Original content gets attention via social media
Just wanted to show you guys something cool. The other day I wrote an article about some pancetta I cured at home and something interesting happened: site traffic almost doubled for two days and my ad revenues for August are now 5x what they were for all of July.
You may have noticed a few weeks ago that I added a “share” button that appears when viewing articles (but not links). Click it and you can easily push a link to the article out to facebook, reddit, digg, twitter, whatever you use. I hadn’t actually ever used it, though.
I posted the pancetta article and thought maybe the cooking subreddit might be into it, so I used the share link to post. Then I thought, well, why not everywhere else? Posted to twitter, digg, and a few other sites I hadn’t even heard of. And then we got all that traffic. It even got some upvotes and comments. So now I’m going to start clicking it for just about any posted article that contains more than a few sentences. I’m curious to see just how well it works.

I didn’t realize you wanted financial stake in the site. In that case, we’ll take your share of the ad revenues from the year and subtract them from my hosting bill which means you owe me about $118 or so. You can pay me via paypal, cash, or check. Whichever is easiest.
If it’s per click, then I’m going to start sharing everything on Parkinsons forums. Thank you, The Onion.
