As someone who spent 8 months working midnight to 7am, I found the most effective(and fun)way was to go to bed every day around 4 during the week, then stay out till normal (2ish) on Friday, be normal Saturday, and stay up as late as possible Saturday night, set an early alarm Sunday, then be dead tired at 4 Sunday night. It had the side benefit of staying out late drinking as a necessity.
