Not Sure Why I Even Bother...
one month from now starts the new English Football season. as always, i have a fantasy league going and as always, i am posting about it here.
for some unfathomable reason, no one ever joins even though it’s fun & easy to play. no bullshit drafts, just an even playing field, choosing whomever you want. i rather like it that way because even the smallest difference between 2 chosen teams can mean big points in the long-term.
on a related note, kev & i are up for going to watch the matches in Center City whenever anyone wants to – preferably on Man Utd days, though i am also keeping my eye on Wolverhampton this year.
anyway, go to the fantasy football site, register & choose a team (hell, AUTO-FILL it!), and join my league – the code is 189436-49749.

yeah, you tried pretty hard there (never even got to the “playing” stage). it’s easy as hell and wouldn’t be so boring if you actually vested some interest in the game like you always claim you want to. not trying to twist your arm, just sayin’.

Also…why the sudden interest in Wolves?
one of kev’s close friends is from Wolverhampton and it’s always interesting to see how they do when they get promoted (they’ve been up & down a couple of times).
I watched a bunch of Liverpool games while I lived in California, one of the guys in the office grew up there so whenever a game was on we watched in on the big screen in the lobby.
Unfortunately, my interest in fantasy sports wanes after a week or two. I can’t seem to make it part of a daily or weekly routine.
Have fun storming the castle.
John said:Yeah, I like the draft. The rest is incredibly boring.
I agree that the draft is the best part, especially if you play in a league where the other managers aren’t very active and there aren’t many trades. But I still love managing the team, buying low, selling high, etc.
John, if you like the draft, you should actually like this fantasy format since you technically re-draft your team every single week.

true, but you can only transfer 1 player per week without being penalised points. i learned that the hard way the first year.
alix, you & scout should each join!
I’m registered.
Mandy, since I assume you are the league administrator, have you modified any of the rules/scoring for this league from the general rules described on the website? It’s not head to head scoring is it?
I’m psyched! Need more teams though, c’mon John, don’t be a pus! I GUARANTEE you’ll love it.

it’s classic scoring, no head-to-head. if it is the same as last year, you’ll be thrown into a random head-to-head league regardless, which should be fun to watch.
Jay said:I will win this league.
i wish you luck. i have come 3rd for the past 2 years in a league overrun with dozens of Englishmen (and 1st in another). i want some active competition.
The Manc said:Sidebets anyone??
go for it. make sure they’re also posted or reposted in the league forum.
Oh, competition you will get! I will not play in a league unless I’m serious about it.
So is there a way to see other player’s team lineup, to see what you’re up against? Can’t see Mandy’s team right now.
What’s up with week 2 by the way, seems like a bunch of teams don’t play? I’m not really familiar with the Premiere league but it doesn’t look like teams get a ‘bye’ week like in the NFL except for that week. Need to rethink my team, damn this is frustrating and fun already!

hahaha, okay then! i am glad i’ll have some people to beat. you cannot see anyone’s team until the current Gameweek has started, that way when you are very close in points with someone, you can’t choose your lineup based on their team. usually the Gameweek “starts” a few hours before all of the matches, making changes impossible and the other teams viewable.
some weeks have less teams playing, which means you’ll have to pay attention to your team. don’t have 3 Liverpool players starting if the lazy bastards aren’t playing that week! however, these weeks are made up by those teams playing 2 or 3 games some other time, which is AWESOME. then you definitely want those scouse bastards in your team as they’ll have a chance at getting double or triple points.
like i mentioned above, you get 1 transfer per week, unless you play your one-time-only Wildcard where you get to change out whomever and however many you want without penalty.
you can follow all of the rules carefully or you can shoot from the hip – both strategies are absolutely frustrating and fun.
Tom said:when does a week start/end? monday-sunday, wednesday-tuesday?
I can tell you are coming at this from a fantasy baseball/football perspective. Premier league is weird because the schedule varies so much. Because of all of the in-season tournaments and stuff, the game (fixture) schedule is subject to change, so you need to keep an eye on the news. Also, you need to keep tabs on your player’s form because you’ll very often see a good player get his ass sat on the bench if he isn’t performing up to standards.
Mandy, the one change per week allows you to drop a player from your roster and pick one up from the free agent pool, right? It’s not just limited to moving one guy from your “bench” into the starting 11?

exactly. you can make as many changes (captain, subs, etc.) within your team as you want until the week starts.

Oh yeah. This sounds like great fun. I’m sorry to have missed it!

It’s so much fun, especially if you’re a nerd that like to analyze shit at the same time as beating your friends at shit. Honestly, this should be perfect for you, but then again, I don’t know you too well and am basing that assessment off of your internet persona.
Nice one Tom, you walked that league. Led from start to finish and currently with a score that would have him top of the other, very competitive, league I am in.
If you are up for it next year I can get you in on that league, entry fee is about $16 dependent on exchange rates.
Congratulations Tom the Champion.
